Are you happy with the agreement?

International England
comment on the article

The seemingly interminable club-v-country row, which has dogged English rugby for the last four years, appears to be at an end.

The RFU will have control over a squad of 32 elite players and in return will compensate the clubs.

They will also pay a bonus to clubs for fielding English-qualified players.

Martyn Thomas, the RFU chairman, believes the eight-year agreement will prevent player burnout and ensure that England go into tournaments and big matches at their peak.

What do you think? Are you angry that your club will not be able to field some of its stars whenever they choose?

Do you think this will give England a better chance of success at international level?

This proposal sounds rather like crickets central contracts which has contributed to a much improved England Test Team at the cost of degrading County Cricket. Whether or not this is a good thing depends if you follow County or International cricket most closely.

Ulster only won when no English sides were in - Munster needed a favour from Castres - and got it - to qualify top of the group.

No - if Munster don't get a bonus point win at Castres they can't qualify top of the group whatever the Sale result. How convenient that Castres didn't play any of their internationals against Munster (though they did the games before and after) - it must have been a sudden outbreak of injury.

there are very few things that bring people from all ove rthe uk and ireland together the british and irish lions are 1 of those things
It would be a terrible thing if we lost them imo by all means shorter tours but to lose it all together would be a disaster for uk and irish rugby

Bloody Nora!! Sounds like here's been an outbreak of common sense at HQ. Me being cynical normally, I'm still waiting for Beadle to jump out with a microphone clutched in his emaciated paw.....

I'm Welsh but, perhaps amazingly after 50 years of following the game, not a one-eyed critic of English rugby!
England has enormous potential as a national side, considering the size of its playing base and the wealth of possible financial sponsorship.
This latest deal is a large and necessary step towards realising that potential.
A lot of rubbish has been talked and written about England's boring approach in the World Cup when, plainly, that limited team simply played to its strengths.
Anyone - Welsh, Southern Hemisphere or otherwise - who believes that the World Cup means England will never produce skilful, tactically-aware backs to match their forwards is living in dreamland!

Its took a long time to get this deal and it does sound good on paper.

Lets hope it is as good as it sounds imo it is a step in the right direction.

Haven't read it all but anything that gives the national squad the chance to have the best players available in time and match ready has to be good...

Of course it's a good deal, now let's see England show the world how good we can be.
