Rugby mourns Ray Gravell

Wales
comment on the article

Wales and Lions legend Ray Gravell has died at the age of 56.

'Grav' was a key member of the Wales teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s that dominated the Five Nations, also winning four Lions caps on the 1980 tour to South Africa.

The BBC and S4C presenter was a great character as well as a player and will be sorely missed.

Send your tributes and share your memories of Ray Gravell.

I am saddened by Grav's passing. he was a true sportsman and a gentleman.
My wife and I met him twice after matches at Straddey Park.
His warmth when he spoke to us made us feel very special.
Our world is a poorer place without him
Kind Regards to all of Ray's family

my suggestion for a new verb in both welsh and english:-
Grav = treat a complete stranger as if he/she is your best loved long lost friend.
the nation and the world is a sadder place for Ray's passing. The fact that so many people both in wales and abroad loved him so is a greater tribute than any cup or gong could bestow. you will be long remembered by all ray fawr, thanks for all the memories.

A great welshman who will be sorely missed. I had the pleasure of meeting Grav a few times in Llanelli, he always had a smile and had time for everyone. He was proudly Welsh, and even thogh I now live half way around the world I am saddened by his too early loss.

Although I never met Grav he was a strong presence in our lives, and his death will create a void it will be difficult to fill. Grav was a huge presence, and he always brought such joy and enthuasiasm to what he was doing.

We played a lleague game in Cologne last week and we held a minutes silence, afterwards some were asking who Ray Gravell was, they have a welsh coach and all he said was "He was Rugby" it was great to see that the true rugby ethics have not been forgotten and the respect for a fellow rugby player is worldwide, even in places you didnt think played rugby. Cheers grav and im a jock

What can one say? It goes without saying that such a personality as the late President of Llanelli Rfc should have the new stadium named after him.
WRU, Llanelli and WA the ball is in your court.
It is 40 years since I left Wales but Ray is one of those who deserves Welsh honours. He was in the company of Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler, Dylan Thomas, and many others great Welshman.

Ray Gravell, what a gentleman. I watched him in my youth and modelled my career in the centre on him, and if i was 10% of the player he was Il be happy!
I ve read every one of these comments and they all brought a tear to my eyes. His humility and humanity shines through all the stories and little anecdotes about him. He had time for absolutely everyone and Im sure that NO ONE has a bad word to say about the man. I loved his playing, I loved his acting, his commentaries and his interviews. With respect to al the greats of our beloved game, I doubt if the loss of any other of them would have generated such an upswelling of emotion and love for a great Welshman, and above all, a great Man. Cysgwch yn dawel, Ray Fach, your voice and smile and laugh will live forever.
My deepest sympathy to his family and especially to his girls, how they will miss their great big bear of a Father. God bless.
