England's World Cup bid

World Cup England

If England don't get the World Cup in 2018 then it is nothing more than a joke! Since 1966 we have hosted one other tournament and that was Euro '96!!!

In the history of the World Cup and European Championships Italy have held 2 WC and 2 EC, France have held 2 WC and 2 EC and Germany have held 2 WC and 1 EC.

We have much better transport links than the majority of nations and we host PL and CL matches every week with attendances of over 60,000.

Surely the poor excuse of football hooliganism can not be used again when it's quite clear that other nations (including Italy) have a much much worse problem than us.

At least 4 of the countries already putting themselves forward would organise better games.

They have simply shown themselves to be better organisers and administrators of major projects.

People from England also tend to find it difficult to communicate successfully with people from other countries. This is a cultural rather than linguistic consideration, of course.

Don't know who the 'four countries' are who would organise a better World Cup but we do have the tradition, the stadiums, the infrastucture, the fans and the most universally convenient time zone to stage a perfect one ourselves.

Football would truly be coming home!

Not strictly true, the UK is the home of football as the other nations made a major contribution to the success, development of the modern game especially Scotland.

Sonothesoil.......

The organised game originated in England but you are quite right that it was developed by others including Scotland and in particular by Queens Park, a club I have a fondness for having played for an amateur club in England that held and continues to hold the same principles.

I would dispute that although at least you know about Queens Park who were heavily involved in the FA Cup set up.

There was a set of written rules fond in Callander, Pershire which pre dates the FA rules. The passing game was a Scottish development too.

Therefore I stick to my original point, it's UK.

I think the Netherlands really deserves to host the world cup, they have been amongst the best football countries in the world for decades but they have never hosted the World Cup. Give the countries who have never hosted a chance before giving it to England, France or Germany again.

Public transport better than most countries!!!I should think not.... Germany, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, France and many more can claim to better! Because you haven't hosted it for such a long time, so... the world cup is a world cup and rightfully it should shared around the world.

Without the rotation i don't believe we would be seeing a world cup in africa for atleast another 20 years and i fear australasia has missed out on this oppurtunity. Please don't say Africa doesn't deserve it. They're a bunch of football crazed fans who watch football from all over the world and not just their own back yard!

Speaking of fans who only care their own game and nobody else, remember Euro 96 and the attendance and atmosphere was poor for many games except the england or scotland matches. so you nation of crazy football fans explain that!?

like to see it in england but feel spain and portugal will probably get it. two football mad nations with great stadiums and great weather.where else better to play and watch football.they both have super stadiums with portugal having recently held what,s been regarded as the best euro,s.spain would not have to do much as they also have great stadiums.easy to get to some of the best transport systems in europe.sadly i feel this would be england,s downfall as our transport system is among the worst as wembley has shown.try going to an england game and see it in practice.i have and the best way to describe it is useless and thats being kind. i mean a game is 1.5 hours but be prepared for lots of extra time to get out and in i,m afraid.if we could sort that out we,d have a decent chance but our record again sad to say is pretty poor.i have been to estadio da luz and camp nou and and its so easy and simple to get in and out,i was in the bar barely an hour after each game.they,d be my fav,s to get it but you never know with fiffa,i just hope its not os or china i,d hate to have to watch the games in the early ours etc.
