Max & the FIA!

Formula One

So according to Max, Lewis had no major influence on the 2007 F1 season, what was it then, the FIA’s handling of the ‘spy’ situation & the various disagreements throughout the season or was it the fact that a young English ‘rookie’ was on the podium at nearly every race, his calm demure & overtaking skills?

Sort of sums up the role of the FIA then doesn’t it!

Should Max move on to another sport, maybe bowls or some such?

we all know mosley is an outspoken ceo. along with eccletstone he is ruining F1.
they keep changing rules & threatening to not use tracks that do not come up to their financial expectations.
& of course hamilton has greatly insreased interest both in england & abroad.

Do we really care anymore. It isn't sorted out on the track any more, it is a great shame that this sport along with others is being ruined by money. Like Schumacher if Lewis is dominant then it will not be good for the sport short term. As last year I really want 2008 to be good for F1 and the fans, let's go racing.

Most of you seem to miss the point that if you count the points McLaren were docked, Ferrari still finished the season ahead in both the drivers AND constructors title thereby winning both championships on their own merit.

Before everybody starts whinning on about the FIA helping Ferrari bear in mind the only reason the championship went to the wire was because the FIA DIDNT remove the driver points from Alonso and The Golden Child which was almost unprecidented. More a case of the FIA helping Alonso & Hamilton in an effort to keep the season alive.

As a newbie to the sport this year, it's interesting to read this discussion thread. What stands out for me at the end of the season is that the talent and bravery of the drivers has been undermined (as in other sports) by the inconsistent and often incompetent administration of the governing body. The respective over-inflated egos and self-importance of Moseley and Ecclestone are in stark contrast to those of the drivers.

Their decision making around illegal cars, driver/race penalties, the "spying sagas" (McLaren/Ferrari/Renault) has, at times, been unfathomable and has opened the way for conspiracy theories and accusations of favouritism.

Much nonsense has been written about certain drivers being favoured and others treated badly, about mechanical failures and good/bad luck. This is the nature of competitive sport and is precisely what makes it exciting.

As for the drivers, Hamilton is clearly a very talented individual (and an articulate, authentic and sincere young man) who had a reasonable share of both good and bad luck. He made a couple of mistakes under pressure (as did his team) which ultimately cost him the title. Raikkonen is an incredibly cool and measured individual who deservedly won the title, although the very personality which allows him to perform so well alienates him slightly from media and fans. Alonso struggled with being beaten by a rookie driver (so he's human...who wouldn't..?!!) and became over competitive at times which ultimately cost him. And Massa is a thoroughly likeable individual who seems to keep the whole thing in perspective....It's a pity that the various Team Principals and FIA officials can't!!

To echo the message of one contributor, let's get racing again very soon, hopefully without the nonsense that has blighted what was otherwise an enthralling season.

To Alex Sheehan a thank you. You are a good egg to take the time and so eloquently address the flawed reasoning of Dodo. Personally, when I hear a dog barking I have no desire to bark with him. Peace.

KR is good no doubt, but has been lucky enough though to cash on the internal struggle of the McLaren team that and mainly that helped him to secure his first title.
Has the McLaren team behaved as any F1 top team would & should - in the same situation, the title would go naturaly to Fernando Alonso.
