What do we reckon? Worth the wait? I myself am underwhelmed by this - massively.

Not the most inspiring choice we could have made but lets at least give him a chance before jumping on his back. Don't forget he'll be working with the same bunch who have underperformed until January at least. He couldn't have asked for a better game to start with as the players should be motivated enough as it is.

I know I wanted someone with experience, but I meant positive experience. We have just appointed a manager with an (admittedly short) history of relegation and underachievement. Face it, we're screwed.

Roeder, poor Norwich, you guys deserve better. Yes, I'm a Spuds fan and used to have a season ticket for Norwich back in the early 90's. Those were the days, Goss, Fox, Sutton, Phillips, Fleck, my word you had some good players and a real team ethic. Hope this club gets back to winning ways but have to say Roeder is an awful choice. When it comes to charisma he has none. Have you ever seen Roeder have a laugh. Nope, nor me. Why, cos he lacks emotion. He wouldnt instill confidence in me so how the club think someone like Roeder can manage that I dont know. I really hope I'm wrong about this as I'd love to see the Canaries climb the table but something sadly tells me I wont be. sadface

Forgetting his disastrous time at Gillingham, he did well at Watford for a while. First season he staved off relegation with an inherited side, the next season narrowly missing out on the playoffs. The third season could have been so much different had Jack Petchey spent some money. Even in January 96, before Roeder was sacked in the February, it could have been salvaged has the board sanctioned the signing of Paul Wilkinson. He bought some excellent players (Miller, Foster, Phillips, Mooney) but when it went wrong, he had no support from the board to sign decent replacements.

West Ham COMPLETELY undermined him. He needed several players in the summer of 2002 but they gave him no money at all. The squad was full of holes, he wasn't popular with the fans and he couldn't do anything to change that. Had he tried to sell another of the "crown jewels" like Cole or Carrick, he'd have been a pariah, though it may have been the right thing to do for the good of the squad. Let's not forget that the second season involved an Aristotilian confluence of events and he didn't know but he was struggling with a brain tumour. Try this on for size; your player of the year becomes an alcoholic, your international goalkeeper has to take time off to save his marriage, your international centre back sees his whole family move home, both of your main forward are either injured or causing problems the whole season. Any manager would have struggled that season.

He's not the greatest manager, that much is true. However, he is by no means the worst and has been very unlucky.

I cant believe this decision, being a hammers fan makes me biast but having lived in Norfolk and popping down to see the Canaries when the hammers were away i still have a soft spot for them and i believe this is the wrong decision for Norwich Roeder is a poor manager with a bad track record but what i will say is he is a fantastic coach and unfortunately your either one or the other as Peter Grant found out.
Roeder took the Hammers down and we will never forget that some people say he did ok in his first season when we finished 7th but we were the 1st team to finish that high with a negative goal difference, some of his tactics were poor and his team selection often left alot to be desired, i wish him luck but i do feel the board have appointed the wrong man lets hope he proves us wrong it would be bad for football if the Canaries fell out of the Championship.

No, come to think of it, you are now well and truly screwed. Say hello to Forest for us.

"I've been in this sort of position before and always managed to turn it around"

You mean you took a club with David James, Michael Carrick Glen Johnson, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Trevor Sinclair, Paolo Di Canio, Frederick Kanoute, etc and you got them RELEGATED.

If roeder manages to lead norwich to end their losing streak with ipswich, he'll be hailed as a saint, no matter what he does foe months afterwards.

The West Ham relegation isn't really a fair criticism. Yes, the team had players like Joe Cole, Di Canio and Kanoute attacking, but unfortunately - after selling Rio and Lampard - they only had players like Repka and Dailey at the back!

It was also one of the tightest seasons on record, with only 10 points between the relegated Hammers and Southampton in 8th.

And besides, I think he's the highest profile manager the canaries were ever going to get...
