OPEN LETTER TO JUANDE RAMOS................

comment on the article

Dear Mr Ramos.

On behalf of the Spurs fans on 606, I would like to welcome you as our coach.

Mr Ramos, as you will see, our situation is not good.

The reasons are numerous, there are many different reasons for our lowly situation, but that is not the point.

Please organisation this sorry shower. Play to a system that they can understand and is effective. Play with passion but intelligence.

Get rid of the dead wood.

Get up into the player's faces and get them to show some pride in the shirt (I refer you to CR0_Spurs' excellent article on how to achieve this).

And most importantly, let the Board know that you will stand no nonsense or meddling with first team affairs.

They have agreed to pay you a princely sum for your expertise, now they must ASSIST you and not interfere in the running of the team.

Let them know in no uncertain terms the names of the players wanted and those surplus to requirements.

Play no favourites. No untouchables. Whether a big name or a young lad, they perform or they are are out.

Point out the Bentley's 4x4's and variety of other vehicles in the car park. Remind them that our support has gotten them where they are.

Lastly Sir, put a smile back on our faces. style and substance would be nice, but suitable performances for the moment. Winning performances.

Mr Ramos, we are putting our faith in you. Be a good custodian for our hopes.

Yours in anticipation.

Cets.

Dear Mr Ramos

As you can see that you are one of many managers in 11 years to be appointed at this small unsuccessful club.

We expect you to finish in the top 4 (please have top4 tattooed on your head as we like to talk about it alot)
We expect you to buy English players (money no object) even if they are crap, the fact they are english means more than our success as we need something to bragg about.
Please believe that we have always been better than our rivals, please aim to draw with them on derby days ,as we have chosen not to beat them for nearly ten years, then we can celebrate, if they feild a weaker team please aim for a draw again. We have also chosen not to finish above them as clearly if you look at our colourful recent history that we are a cup side.
Also tell the players not to bother playing well or win anything, as the fans are very noisy and that is all that matters, they can boo louder than any oher team in the world.

If you win against any opposition twice on the trot we will crack open a bottle of champers and we will go through the black and white photos of the glory days when you was a small boy, however if you lose more than two games on the trot expect to be booed by the faithfull fans, and expect to be replaced with immidiate effect

I would like to wish you luck.

Remember we are Bottemham from the lane

I'm not so sure about this. I mean, Ramos appears to be a good manager (although his early management history was a bit sketchy because of getting fired all over the place), but can he do it? Can anyone do it?

Michael Robinson says Ramos is a good manager and, as a liverpool fan, i can take his word for it. But does he have too much to do?? Spurs have some quality players in Keane, Berbatov, King, Dawson and (despite his form) Robinson. But there are a lot of positions that need filling. Both fullbacks for starters are utter pony. They need much much better central/attacking midfielders, and i think they're desperately in need of a playmaker. If the rumours are to be believed, then Berbatov is off in January. If he goes, then Spurs will struggle even more. Darren Bent is complete garbage and has been found out to be a very poor player. £16.5m?? Don't make me laugh! Defoe needs to sort his attitude out and stop being so selfish on the ball. He should take a leaf out of Keane's book, as he's a scorer and a provider.

Don't get me wrong though, i DO like Spurs. I just feel that some supporters think they're a bigger club than they actually are. Yep, they've had some great success in their time and, at the risk of getting my head chewed off (lol), i think that their history qualifies them as a bigger club than Chelsea! But times have changed, and i can't see Spurs or anyone else breaking into the top4 for a VERY long time. So you can change your manager as much as you like, the only thing that's gonna change about the top 4 is the order in which they finish.

Hi snow.

Right. Ramos has a massive job, you are correct, but, along with many Spurs fans, I believe the main problem with our team is a lack of organisation and Jol's blind loyalty to certain players.

I don't agree with your fullbacks comment totally: Chimbonda is fine, Lee.....

The midfield is a big problem area which was, IMO, was made worse (again) by Jol and his insistence on playing out of form players.

JJ is the best of a mediocre bunch at the minute, definately need reinforcements.

And the front line: Jol and his "let's all try to keep em happy" policy was quite frankly childish.

Find your best two and play them together in the top games.

All in all mate, I think our situation managerially is similar to you guys when Evans was in charge: Nice guy, just not a winner.

Ramos is.

With a struggling club like TH, it would take more than a miracle to put things right, Ramos or no Ramos.

I will say for the umpteenth time that Jol was the problem of TH in that he under-utilised the vast array of good players in his stables.
What Ramos needs is to chuck off Huddlestone from the midfield and find a good ball player (mobile enough) to pair with Zokora in the midfield. On-form Jenas would have been a perfect replacement but there should be someone around capable of fulfilling this role.

All the matches of TH that I've watched this season have followed a similar pattern: The inability of the midfield to hold and get the ball to the front players. As if this is not dire enough, Jol discouraged his two highly mobile fullbacks to go forward as they should (and could) do. To make matters worse, the central defence is so slow as to allow a tortoise to outpace it. Coupled with this is the lack of firepower upfront, except on few occasion when Defoe was brought in. Thus no one should be surprised about TH's position.

As for the goalkeeper, his crisis of confidence is a mere epitomy of TH's saga. How many goalkeepers would not buckle under constant pressure? This is not to defend Robinson for making a couple of amateurish mistakes but to put things in their logical perspectives. I believe he would do well as soon as the impending shake-up of the whole squad takes place.

Hi slyfas.

Good post and I agree with many aspects of it.

I think you are right, Jol never utilised the talent on disposal correctly, but organisationally, we are a shambles.

We could have gotten by with a lot of the players we have, but no-one on the pitch seems to know what they are doing!!!!!

Thudd is a gem of a player, so I don't want him cast off as you suggest, but I definately want to see a fitter, more combative (have you seen the size of the lad?) player.

The triumvirate of Thudd/Didi/JJ cannot be permed two from three anymore.

No combinations work.

So yes, something else is needed.

Current options for what we have may be KPB (when he finally gets a chance. Ramos, apparently, likes him a lot and tried to get him for Sevilla) and perhaps Kaboul (whom I feel would be a decent anchor man if perhaps Ramos can teach him how to be disciplined in the role).

We also need leadership on the park.

No-one can organise us on the pitch. I have lost count the times we look entirely lost on the field of play.

Our defence, IMO, are a group of guys playing badly without organisation IMO and are not a bad set of players.

Just get the confidence levels up and coach each man to know his role.

I cannot agree with your 'lack of firepower' comment.

Again, the lack of confidence throughout the time has spread.

Every time we play, we conceed 2.5 goals, so, by definition, the attack must score three goals a game for us to get a result.

Ridiculous.

And we have 4 very good attackers who, again, IMO, are playing without confidence (bar Keane).

So, basically, stop the flood of goals, solve the problem ok

We need a really strong and quick left sided midfielder/striker so Bale can revert to being one of the best left backs in British football. We need an experienced centre-back to cover for Ledley's absence and we need an attacking midfielder who can supplement the attack.
Players like Distin, Petrov and Elano who Jol wanted to bring in, we had first shout at, but Commolli and the board wouldn't sanction, instead forcing him to take players like Bent who is certainly no better than we already had.

One of Ramos's main problems will be the fans. They believe that Spurs should play attacking free flowing football. This means they will concede goals and therefore have no chance of becoming a top four club.

As a supporter since 1958 and didn't miss a game between 1967 and 1975, home, away and in Europe, I feel I have I right to say that the way Martin Jol was treated was a disgrace, I bet the great Bill Nicholson is turning in his grave. However, what is done is done so welcome Mr. Ramos I wish you and the team well and I give Mr. Jol my best regards and I sincerely hope he does not come back to haunt us if he should manage a Premiership team in the future. The club should be bigger than any person within it so Mr. Levy watch out.

flashpoint999: not sure how you work out that attacking free flowing football wont get a top 4 spot?? Arsenal, ManU ? Remember them?? and where are they now ? Oh yes 1 & 2. Its working as a team that Spurs need and having watched Seville on Sky a few times over last couple of years thats one very big positive Ramos will bring.
