Rooney isn't world class??!?!

I'm not sure which Rooney you mean, but the Rooney that plays for Manchester United, is certainly world class.

I know the term "world class" is often over used, and abused all the time, but this is not a case of that.

His pace, strength, awareness, vision, work rate...and just down right ability makes him world class.

The only downside to his game is his temperment, but take that away and he wouldnt be the same player.

Wayne Rooney would get into ANY team in the world. That makes him world class.

Being consistently good is nice, but not required to be a world class player.... Henry and Ronaldinho are world class players...but they often go missing in games..are they suddenly not world class now?

I wonder about the sanity of people on here sometimes i really do.....rooney not world class indeed...HAH hilarious!!

If you took away his temperament he would be a better player because then he has less chance of doing something daft & getting sent off, & what do you mean being consistenly good is nice it's a MAJOR factor which determines good players from world-class players oviously all players have bad games but Ronaldinho more otften than not steps up to the plate & has a big impact on big games (e.g. scoring a hat-trick against Real Madrid at the Bernabeau) same goes for Henry he was consistenly good for Arsenal as most Arsenal fans will tell you & instantity if you started a article on these boards saying post you world eleven how many times would Rooney get into a world eleven posted by non United fans? the answer is very very few becuase their is plenty players worldwide better than him

I wonder if FlawlessBrownSkin could tell us his/her reaction to the Rooney back heel that led to Tevez' wonderful goal ?
Football is about enjoyment & I would suggest most people would have enjoyed it immensely. Come on, let's be knowing.

BigJim I'm a him & yh i can tell you my reaction to the goal, it was great back heel by Rooney & good movement by Tevez & I enjoyed it but it still doesn't make Rooney world class until he does it consistenly.

I thought it was a great result against a team that has brought us some misery over the past few seasons. Good to see all of our new signings playing so well. =]

Not sure we are having a debate about Rooney's pedigree. Him & Gerrard are arguebly, england's only world class players (I am not english). They make watch when they play because they can make something special & turn a game.

I just watched Barca tonight beat Almeria, & Ronaldinho was average (& he has been since 2005) & we know Henry never been the same without his pace !!! Does that make them not world class?!

A lot has been said about the successful partnership of Rooney & Tevez, the progressive continuity of Ronaldo, not forgetting the very impressive Nani (what a goal!!), and of coz the evergreen Ryan Giggs. But i must stress the formation of another midfield pairing formulated by Sir Alex, which is Anderson / Hargreave. This must be a legendry pair in the making. If you watched the MU-Kiev game, you would have noticed that Anderson did a lot of Off-the-ball stuff i.e marking out the central movement of the opposition, making telling passes when he had the ball, defending intelligently. In the second half he became more involved when MU was in attacking mode. These qualities will blend in nicely with Hargreaves high workrate of jockying & tackling. All we have to do is wait for Carrick to get back from injuries. That will be the fearsome trio. Now, we are actually looking at the making of a formidable midfield combination since the days of Ince/Cantona/Keane. Don't you think so?
I can't understand why there are so many question marks about Wayne Rooney being world class or not. He is playing first team football with MU and England. Scoring regularly every week in EPL, and the current Champions League games... Now even contributing more than ever as MU's first line of defence, as MU's game emphasized more on defending higher up in the opponent's half. In my opinion, Wayne Rooney is every inch a world class player, and will only get better!! In fact scoring goals consistently IS the hallmark of a potent goal poacher. So, do we still need a tall target man like Van Nilstrooy? Answer: Nah! i can't remember people saying anything about the actual need for him since this bunch of mean machine got out of 1st gear. Sir Alex is more than a proven manager. He definitely knows how to win a football match..with or without the so called central big-tall-burly target man.
Next is the Arsenal match which is a yardstick to gauge how much Sir Alex has instilled the winning formula into the new signings. Of coz it'll be good to see another vintage performance from Giggsy (another solo run and blasting the ball into the Arsenal goal...like he did before, remember?)

CHeeRs!!

Why is everyone talking about Roony's temperment? When was the last time he got sent off? In fact when was the last time he got booked? I think he's made huge improvments since joining us on his temperment and people should start realising this.

4-1 four games four goals not done in 100years by us we are playing great football and looking amazing, we have a great defence atm and if we keep this up we can really get on with arsenal and make it another fantastic year to show the league rocks all the others.

ROONEY not world class? lol let me explain to u lot what world calss is when some one can plays in any team and still get into the team and rooney can do that and ronaldo. in a team i prefer to ahve rooney than ronaldo because the games where u need your players they dhould deliver. rooney does. nani is a amazing player has everything to become giggs replacement. anderson is only 19 can u believe that i cant he plays football like a person will experience and he can tackle pass the ball well and quick at defencing attacking. i cant wait until anderson gives fabregas a football lesson.
