I think this is only going to be a good move for portsmouth, i can genuinely say, if i didn't support arsenal, i'd support them, and im glad finally your club is heading in the right direction, class players, class manager and financial backing, now you'll have the stadium to accomodate some of the best fans ive ever seen, i was over last year at fratton park for the arsenal pompy game, and i was nearly deafened...

either way... this is nothing bit good for you

Portsmouth's plans for a new stadium by the sea have been sunk by the Royal Navy. The stadium, which would have jutted into the harbour, cuts into a naval exclusion zone. Pompey are now planning to build a new home on top of a rubbish tip near Port Solent

Here we are again another bright new vision for the greatest club on planet earth and The News publishes possible objections and yep you guessed it those pesky Brent geese are in there again. Most sensible location thats been suggested in sometime and as most of Port Solent's residents either play for the club or spend the week working in London its got to be a goer because they'll either be completely for it or totally oblivious. No doubt saints fans will say pompey have found their natural home on a rubbish tip but lets not forget they reside on a former gas works and lets face it most of em' are full of hot air anyway!!

This is fantastic news. It makes more sense to have the new stadium at the northern end of the island, close to road & rail links, rather than getting 40,000 people through Portsmouth. And it looks like the Council support it.
As a fan since 1962, I love Fratton Park - but the time has come to move on.
The transport links need to be properly planned, so come on all interested parties, don't snatch defeat from the hands of victory - as it looks like the London Olympic Committee are doing!
Play Up Pompey.

I cant believe people are complaining about it only being 36,000 capacity. Pompey only consistently fill their ground when they are playing one of the top four teams (because people are going to see the opposition?). For all other games the tickets all go on general sale and dont always sell out. Especially cup games. They let children have tickets for £5 and it still does not sell out. Check tomorrows game against Blackburn and see how many Pompey fans are there.

That said - cant wait for the move. I live close to Fratton Park and look forward to being able to move around the city by car and being able to park on match days again.

why do you all talk about it being great at that site everyone seems to think that every supporter of the club gets to games by car or train. when the vast majority walk to games as they are all local from milton fratton southsea eastney buckland areas like that so when this ground is built how are we going to get there because i dont want to walk an 45mins to get to the other side of town and nither will anyone else. most of you on here dont live in the city or even go to games that often.

Personally I can't beat walking to the match from mums home in Fratton ( on my visits from Australia) so I'd love to see the present space utilised. The energy is there. Moving is always a gamble. Worked for arsenal not for southampton. But if the club is better off financially by selling fratton then I'd say take the risk............ but offer special transport for local fans ........ that could be even better in building up the pre match energy.

So far there has been no consultation with the Port Solent residents and I hope that we get chance to have our say on this development. I personally have mixed views and fear that the local pubs and restaurants of Port Solent will become no-go areas on match days. I pray that the lovely ambiance of the Boardwalk will not change.

Portchester and Cosham stations do not have the capacity needed and are a distance from the proposed site. It would be better that transport links are provided with Portsmouth that would keep traffic away from the feeder road into Port Solent - bring back the tram proposals!

There are so many issues to address and we need our say!

While I believe the new location is a vast improvement to the Hard I still ponder how accessible this new stadium is going to be. Firstly it is nowhere near any large transport links such as train stations and is on the wrong side of a motorway for people to walk to. I am still a believer that the playing fields of Cosham is the place for Pompey. Close to pubs, eateries and a station. The development will also revitalise a shopping area thats been forgotten by the city council. I would also like to add the reason Fratton Park is barely full is because gaining tickets for games while in the prem has always been difficult/impossible. I think alot of people have given up trying. So 36000 maybe enough for now but league winning clubs need more to be sustainable. Portsmouth needs a large adaptable site which will sustain them for the next 50+ years, not just the next 5-10.
