Pavlik-Duddy in January!

WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will defend his world titles against John Duddy on January 26 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City according to the Youngstown Vindicator. The bout will be televised on HBO and take place in the same venue where Pavlik dramatically dethroned Jermain Taylor last month.

Personally I think the fight is too soon for Duddy, I'm taking that from what I've seen, heard and read about him. Its an excellent chance for him of course but could be a blood bath (maybe not that bad)

jc_ireland,
The city in question is called Londonderry and a sizeable proportion of the city would indeed describe themselves as British, Northern Irish or both. Well pointed out Deighy...

Regardless of his nationality, Duddy's overrated and hasn't fought anyone of note...

Thats Derry with a capital D! John Duddy is irish and before tonights fight he'll walk out with the irish tri-colour and the irish national anthemn,Amhrán na bhFiann, will be played. People from the north of Ireland can have dual citizenship so to say they're either northern irish or british is rubbish, it will say irish or british on their passport. It amazes me the level of ignorance on these forums. Anyway, hope john wins tonight and does his country proud....up the irish!

Why on earth would anyone out of Ireland with no Irish relatives know about a dual nationality rule. It is hardly front page news.

All I know is that northern Ireland is NOT part of great britain.

The only reason I know that is that the olympic team is stated at Great Britain and Northern Ireland

John Duddy is a derry man which is in northern ireland therefore all northern irish boxing fans should get behind him.

He's also a proud catholic irishman however secterianism has no place in boxing.

As a derry/londonderry man who is not a catholic i wish john all the best and hope he wins a world title.

Hes not fought anyone of real quality (campas was an over the hill lightweight), but hes brave, aggressive and can punch.

The odds are against him but all irish and northern irish fight fans should get behind this brave and likeable guy whos flying the flag for irish and northern irish boxing in america.

What the city of his birth is called, which nationality, flag, or IRA anthem Duddy wants to play before his fights are all irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that the man is not a world-class boxer and never will be. Fighting 19-year-old boys who are barely out of school just confirms this. Unlike Barry McGuigan and Wayne McCullough, who were great fighters, Duddy divides the Ulster public, alienating those who don't sign up to his ideals. In otherwards I won't be sad to see him out for the count and seeing stars if/when he fights and gets KO'd by Pavlik...
