Scrum V's Team of the Week, 07-10-07

Welsh Wales
comment on the article

We’ve been keeping across all the action from the Magners League over the weekend and have come up with the top performers from each position.

Take a look at our choices, then let us know why we’re wrong!

You can find the match reports here:

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rug...

15: Morgan Stoddart (Scarlets)
Glasgow’s Bernardo Stortoni impressed, but the nomination has to go to the defensively composed and offensively dynamic Scarlet youngster

14: Gareth Wyatt (Dragons)
A stalwart of the Welsh club scene, Wyatt continues to deliver week-in, week-out for the Dragons. His excellent early try set up the Gwent side’s victory

13: Regan King (Scarlets)
It was a good weekend for at least one All Black, King proving too hot for the Leinster midfield defence to handle

12: Gavin Evans (Scarlets)
The Scarlets centre partnership was able to break the Leinster defence at will. Not many teams can rack up 50 points in Dublin

11: Tom James (Blues)
The mercurial rise of the Blues flyer continues. James’ brace in Munster took league leaders the Blues to a famous victory at Musgrave Park

10: Tim Donnelly (Connacht)
Nicky Robinson was outstanding in the Blues win and Rhys Priestland starred with the boot in Leinster, but Donnelly gets the nod after leading Connacht to the brink of victory in Glasgow

9: Ben Meyer (Edinburgh)
Edinburgh rocked reigning champions the Ospreys with an early onslaught, Meyer at the heart of their efforts. Fast-improving Dragons scrum-half Wayne Evans is unlucky to miss out after a fine display

1: Augusto Allori (Edinburgh)
Dragons youngster Hugh Gustafson impressed, but a try-scoring display from Edinburgh’s Argentine prop takes the plaudits

2: Gareth Williams (Blues)
The Blues hooker was at the heart of the sort of mighty forward effort needed to triumph in Munster

3: Gary Powell (Blues)
Powell’s rebirth continues after looking to be on his way out of the Arms Park in the summer. A strong showing from the tight-head

4: Andrew Hall (Dragons)
A hard-working display from the Scottish lock. Was unlucky to see his unseen work go unrewarded when he had a try disallowed

5: Robert Sidoli (Blues)
It’s been a miserable few months for the 2005 Grand Slam star, but Sidoli’s effective partnership with Bradley Davies helped the Blues to victory

6: Joe Bearman (Dragons)
Matt Mustchin worked hard for Edinburgh, but the nod goes to Bearman. Arrived at Rodney Parade as a journeyman, if he stays injury free he could emerge as a talisman

7: Jon Edwards (Scarlets)
With Wales seeking Martyn Williams’ long-term successor, youngster Edwards announced himself on the regional scene with a breathtaking display in Leinster. Effective at the breakdown, strong in the tackle, and two tries to boot

8: John Beattie (Glasgow)
A forceful performance from the number eight who looked out to prove a point to the national selectors. Scored a crucial try in the win over Connacht

laugh actually you have a point, the Welsh sides had an exellent weekend in the Magners, what a win by the Scarlets and that is without all the big shots from the Welsh squad, if only we could do something with all this talent at international level.

Hey, Dean D
Why no Leinster players? I watched them on Friday and they were all out, standing in their field. Their decoy runs for some of the Scarlet's tries were brilliant.

Hmmm, I think the Leinster defence had been taking tips from Wales against Fiji

joe bearman has been outstanding this season so far, a few charvesque last ditch tackles and forceful running. he has shown some neat feat and plenty off agression. i was there on saturday and he wouldn't come off when he was quite clearly seeing stars at one point. deservedly kept a british lion out of the starting line up and mikey will have to work hard to get back in at this rate! epitomises the dragon's 'dog'
