Ok guys. This ones for the older generation.
Pick an all star team that pre dates the 1981 season.
4-4-2 formation plus 5 subs. You can go back to the biginning of the Blades creation, if you can remember that far back.

Here's the latest first team and squad vote up to 19/10/07.And appologies for any wrong positions, please feel free to correct any mistakes.
As with the other all star team, this is to be used on "the Crossed Blades" web site.

Well Many of these I wont have seen but I have of course heard many memories and opinions of them so here goes.

GK: Alan Hodgkinson
RB: Len Badger
CB: Ernest Needham
CB: Phil Jagielka
LB Joe Shaw
RW: Alan Woodward
MF: Tony Currie
MF: Trevor Hockey
LW: Dane Whitehouse
CF: Jimmy hagan
CF: Brian Deane

Put Jags in there not really because of his ability but the memories he gave me. He was after all a good CB and servant to the club till he left.

Deane and Whitehouse were from a time of locally grown talent. Whitehouse was very unfortunate not to have played for England. Called up twice but injured before he could even train! Deano need I say more.

Here's my Oldies team. I have restricted my choices to players I have actually watched playing for United. Whilst the line-up is 442, my choice of subs means we could switch it to go old skool and play 2 wingers with Woodward and the late, great Gil Reece getting those crosses in! John Tudor is picked as the ideal partner upfront for Mick Jones. I put Dave Powell as CB as I cant think of any other CB good enough to partner Joe Shaw in a 442 set-up. He's too good to leave out and intelligent enough to adapt to the role. Trevor is there to win the ball and give it to Currie. I'd love to have seen him sort out some modern day prima donnas like Renaldo. They wouldn't dare go near him! The side lacks height, but United sides usually do, and we'd be playing the ball on the floor,so it doesn't matter.

Oh what fantastic memories you've ignited here.

Here's my greatest ever!

G. Alan Hodgkinson
RB. Len Badger - best full-back I've ever seen
LB. Graham Shaw
RH. Trevor Hockey - best competitor ever
CH. Joe Shaw - only Bobby Moore was as good
LH. Ernest Needham
OR. Alan Woodward
IR. Tony Currie - best footballer EVER!!!
CF. Mick Jones
IL. Jimmy Hagan
OL. Gil Reece

Subs: Alan Birchenall, Eddie Colquhoun, Tom McAllister, Geoff Salmons, Mickey Speight

I've actually got goosebumps just writing this, makes the current crop look very average.

UTB FOREVER smiley
