2nd ODI: England v Sri Lanka

One-day internationals England
comment on the article

It's England against Sri Lanka in Dambulla in the second ODI - have England learnt from the first game? Or will their poor one-day record in Dambulla continue?

I'll be doing the live text commentary for the BBC Sport website - but what are your thoughts ahead of the day's play?

I watched most of the match. Our early batting was horrific, but Colly, Swann and particularly Man of the Match Shah were great.

Our bowling showed great accuracy and commitment. To win in Sri Lanka after 25 years is a great achievement. Here's hoping we win the toss on Sunday.

Great win - only marred slightly by SCA's vitriolic bitterness. But I'll take the win, even if it means putting up with his pathetic posts.

Who would have thought 6 months ago an England 1 day team would include Bopara, Broad,Sidebottom,Mustad,Swann and Cook.Hard to believe really but there you have it. No where near the standard of Austrailia and today Collingwood once again looked clueless in his field placings and bowlers. Again Ravi Bopara was spared the ball, and even Pietersson looked a bit bemused at his captains reluctance to attack. Take nothing away from Colly he led from the front, he is good at that but alas he's no leader. Tactically he is naive and if we had lost the toss we would have lost the match plain and simple. This side at the present time is not good enough, and within that equation our best batsman is woefully out of form. Well done Shah, nothing wrong there and the rest of the team to performed ok,but that was all, ok. Hardly going to rock the foundations of the cricket world but we won.
Need a new captain though.

England, it's a slightly frightening thought that we have not won a ODI match in Sri Lanka since that very first tour when Sri Lanka had just received Test status and were still regarded as no-hopers.

Nice to end the sequence at last.

Logic says Swann. He has been a consistent performer in OD cricket in England and is an all rounder.

hahaha

Yet another Peal of wisdom.

This from the same muppet who's been going on about looking at stats all day (then misusing them to prove god knows what)

Swann is a consistant performer?

This is his third game...and there was a seven year gap between the first two.

Keep them coming big-guy.

The bottom line is England played well to win their 1st One Day match in Srilanka for 25 years...

Good for you to congratulate England as I think you are an SL supporter

They played very well and SL are fighters to the end, caused a few England hearts to flutter!

Medium-pacer, nice to read a balanced Indian point of view. Unfortunately the Mad Swami tends to make thousands of England fans warm to Darryl Hair.

New dawn? England world-beaters? I'd like to see a few more results like today before getting excited. However, having beaten India and finally won one against Sri Lanka it does look like there is progress. If England slip back and lose the series 4-1 this will just be a freak result. We really need to see at worst a 3-2 defeat to think that England are on the way forward.

It's good to see a young and inexperienced side show that they can win without Andrew Flintoff. I hope though that this win isn't used to rubbish Steve Harmison because he doesn't deserve it.

I do think English fans are hard on their side now that they are just starting to rise again. I know you guys went through a lot of heartbreak for your side butas aan Indian fan I can understand that, but ultimatly these guys represent the country for good or bad and deserve our criticism no doubt but more important our support

Medium-Pacer, your opinions are always worth reading because they are informed, balanced and give a different slant on things. You also speak a lot of common sense (not a frequent trait on here).

The fans tend to rubbish England (and India) far too much. The pressure and demads are sometimes ridiculous. However, I've just seen something that has surprised me a lot. I think that most England fans would admit that Sri Lanka are on a different planet to us in ODI cricket. The ICC's table though now has England (7th) just 5 points behind Sri Lanka who are 4th. If we *were* to win the next two matches we would leapfrog India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka into 4th! Based on results, there is very little between any of the mid-table sides and just a few good results can lead to a side shooting up the table.
