Good choice from story, i wanted ward at bournemouth when o'driscoll left for donny last term. Ward must have been top of his list, he'll manage team affairs well i think and he comes across an honest bloke. up tut blues.

Well I am totally gobsmacked and definitely unimpressed.
I think the power is going to Fred Storey's head and he's going a bit doolally...
He sacked MacDonald after a draw...refuses to state exactly why (Neil MacDonald would like to know too but that's another story) then appoints Greg Abbott who does a marvellous job keeping us well up there in the Play off position (remind me again where Cheltenham are!) The players voiced there satisfaction with Abbott and responded magnficently to his leadership and now this.
I hope Abbott and Booth can stay but I think they will be sacked too and Ward may bring his own in .
I am disgusted that we have now had to compensate MacDonald and now Cheltenham with Carlisle money and not only that we have given Ward a 4 year deal. How much will we have to compensate him when Storey sacks him??? I give it a year (but don't think he'll last the season) Maybe Storey should consider his skills and question whether he should stick to building houses. He has gone down in my estimations rather severely this season.
Good luck to all the lads at Carlisle and especially to Greg Abbott and Dennis Booth. and I hope that the fans who are able to regularly go to Brunton Park stick this period out...

A good appointment, a manager who pulled of minor miricles in getting Cheltenham Town promoted to CCFL1. I think he can get us to the CCFLC.

CumbrianPip its your opinion but it really is load of crap.

You think Abbott will be sacked? Then why has Ward offered him the Assistant job and Abbott has accepted?

Yes Cheltenham may be 23rd at the minute but as Kingjamie says, getting Cheltenham into League 1 is a incredible achievement and to keep them up last season even better.

This isn't a period in the club's history to "stick it out" if you think that then you obviously have forgotten completely about the period of 1998-2005 when the fans really did have to stick it out under the Knighton era and countless relegation scraps and ultimately relegation to the Conference.

Greg Abbott is a good coach and a good man but i said in an earlier post that I only wanted someone in if they were significantly better than Abbott and I believe that John Ward is.

Well done Fred and the board and heres to 4 good years with John Ward.

Why is it that CUFC's official website makes no reference to the appointment of the new manager, yet the BBC site gives extensive coverage?

This sounds like a positive appointment. Whilst I'm as dubious as everyone else with regards to the sacking of Neil MacDonald, that's in the past now, and we have to look forward to move on. Greg Abbot has managed to hold the team together nicely at a difficult time, and deserves a lot of respect for that, but now he'll be back to concentrate on his strengths. Meanwhile, Ward has demonstrated that he can get clubs up a division, so his arrival at Carlisle is something to be excited about.

mmm...do we really have the potential to do higher? i feel there are players in the team which are capable of taking us higher, and the manager is possibly the right man to do it, but we're only getting 6,000 fans per game. Championship clubs gates would be a lot higher wouldn't they? Maybe Carlisle are at their level for now? Definately potential for something big to happen, but maybe not in the immediate future???

CARLISLEAFC - I hope you're right...I really do. I commented about Abbott before Ward clarified that he wanted Abbott to stay and I sincerely hope it works out .
FISHPhONE - the new website is appalling that's why. It's not just Carlisle's site unfortunately but all the clubs that are with that particular service, including my other team sadface
