Dragons v Ulster

Welsh Wales
comment on the article

I've started this thread for chat about Saturday's Magners League game, Dragons v Ulster at Rodney Parade.

Put all your build-up thoughts here, then come back to discuss the match. We'll be looking out for your comments to use on our TV and radio shows. I'm torn on this one, Ulster not too impressive on the road and the Dragons in poor form - will just about take the home side to edge it... The preview/match report is at news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rug...

Rodney Parade, Newport
Saturday, 6 October
Kick-off: 1730 BST
*Live coverage on BBC Radio Ulster MW, S4C & the BBC Sport website

Rhys Thomas is one of the best young props in the World, he should have been at the World Cup, would have added some mobility to the tight forwards!!! Gwent by 10 i reckon!!!

Turner has already turned down a chance to become Jenkins's replacement. Wish he hadn't though. He's doing a phenomenal job with Wales's weakest region, having now lead them to victories over Ulster, Munster, Ospreys and a stunner over Scarlets earlier this season. Hope Larkham joins too. He could add experience and create some marvellous opportunities for a squad full of youngsters.

Another fine show by the Dragons youngsters. This is what regional rugby was supposed to be about. Bearman was on fire once more, can't wait to see him and Charvis paired up in the back row.

Can anyone explain why the returning WC players were not in the side???? Apart from Rory, it's not as if they were burnt out after playing 4 full matches (thanks a bunch Eddie...fool destroying our proud heritage)

I really don't understand why welsh teams got their internationals back and we didn't get ours, I mean EOS didn't even get grass on the Ulster players' boots.

It is fair enough that the players in the squad weren't allowed to come back this week. Even though they weren't playing for Ireland they were still away from home, training and breathing rugby for the past three months. There will be no break for the next five months so having a couple of weeks away from the game has to be good for them.

Im not taking anything away from the Dragons they deserved the win but I cant be the only person who thought the ref didnt know what he was doing. Ulster played pretty badly but they didnt stand a chance with some of the poor decisions that were made. If a player plays badly he is dropped for the next game there has to be review of the current refs in this league and if they ref badly they should be dropped down to ref at lower leagues until they prove themselves capable of the challenge, this is not sour grapes because even with a good ref we wouldnt have won but these poor ref performances are too common now and something needs to be done!!

George Clancy's interpretation of the breakdown was hard to understand, especially as he's a munster man.

The first half penalty count of 8-1 in favour of the Dragons says it all. How can there be so much disparity? To the naked eye it looked as though both sides were pretty much even with their approach to the breakdown, but obviously Mr Clancy didn't see it that way.

Well done to the Dragon's who took the chances that came their way, Ulster didn't deserve to get anything from the game, irrespective of Mr Clancy.

I agree Sandy, one example was Tommy Bowe tackling a Dragon's player, getting immediately to his feet and going for the ball which the Dragons player clung onto. A penalty was given against Tommy and even the commentary team were confused as to why it wasn't in Ulster's favour. That was one example of a few strange decisions but I still think the Dragons deserved the win. Ulster looked clueless at times and the Dragons were by far the better team.
