Jenkins is FINALLY sacked

Rugby world cup Wales

After just 6 wins out of 20 for Wales, Gareth Jenkins has been sacked this morning. Has he gone at the right time or should it have been earlier? Where can Wales go now after their premature exit from the Rugby World Cup?

Personally, I think he was appalling, and just didn't cut it when it came to the big decisions.

As always, opinions welcome... that is the point of these things anyway...

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE MAN IN THIS SQUAD EVERYBODY SHOULD BE LOOKING AT THEMSELVES NOT JUST GARETH JENKINS BUT FROM THE TOP DOWN AND THIS INCLUDES AN INQUIRY SO AS THE MUPPETS WHO ARE AT THE WRU ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE ITS EASY TO BLMAE ITS FINDING OUT WHY THATS HARD

Welsh rugby supporters should calm down a bit. Wales are not an useless rugby team. Welsh rugby creates memborable rugby games on an annual basis, partly becaue of the frailties of the team and the individuality of players like Shane Williams and so on. It is sad to hear over the top attacks on individuals and coaches from people who couldn't hold a candle to these players in terms of producing quality rugby (many critics probably being too unfit to actually be able to play themselves). Sure there are frustrations and we need to improve but dont chuck the baby out with the bathwater, kill inspiration with invective, or indulge in depression. The cool thing is to look at why we can produce great rugby for 20 minutes and then fall off tackles, fail to catch the restarts, and give hospital passes etc. Maybe the Magners league needs a large kick up the back side- the Irish can't be too chuffed and they are responsible to a large extent for not taking the league seriously. Lets get the good players of Wales playing high tempo 80+ minutes of rugby per game EVERY week. If that means getting a professional WRU board, appointing an elite performance director, employing a coach for more than a year at a time then so be it. But I dont think we want the professionalism of a boring Premiership/ England side.

The handling of the departure of Gareth Jenkings shows yet again that the board of the WRU is not suffiently professional. The review needs to first look critically at the top end structure of the Union.

I - as do I assume many others - take no pleasure in the dismissal of Gareth Jenkins. We're the same people who eulogise the coach and team when they play well (they're 'our boys' then) but are quick to criticise when they fail. However, the reality is that his position was untenable and that he was on at best limited time after the world cup performance - it is therefore right that he's gone. I am somewhat bemused that the WRU board seem fireproof in all this though and irked by what I perceive as their continuing arrogance (do you know that you can't post comments on the WRU website anymore - you e-mail the WRU and they post a 'selection' of the e-mails). But who can force them to review their make up and structure - do the fans or the clubs have a mechanism that will make this happen? I think not. It feels more and more like a dictatorship, including the withdrawal of the freedom of speech (on the WRU website at least). So I fear they'll appoint another foreign coach, who we'll expect will turn things around, the focus will shift from them as excitement mounts for the six nations, and in a year or two we will be in the same place again. An ex boss used to say 'a definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome' (not a great quote I know but apposite). There must be something more fundamentally flawed about Welsh rugby than the coach underperforming. If only I knew the full answer and remedy, but I think the board are implicated!

The welsh regions are also to blame. When they are bringing in journeymen to fill the teams.surley there are good young players in the other divisions that could fill these places.
We have the same problem in England my so called Local team Cornish Pirates have got so many overseas players in it.

To CardiffBlueBlood-

I doubt anyone would be happy with an Englishman as coach. BUT, I agree, we need someone who can shake up the team and get us back on a winning track, and CW could be a good way to look.

I dont understand why Clive Woodward is regarded as a top coach, even Gareth Jenkins could have won the world cup with that squad of players, Woodwards capability came to light on the lions tour.

It seems obvious that strong minded former international players need to bring their experience and ability to the aid of our ruling body (WRU).We as Welsh rugby supporters need to get behind them .A clear out is overdue at the top first ,because in this case the rot starts at the top.
Having watched rugby all my life I still feel we have players in Wales able to compete at a high level .Magners league rugby while maybe not as strong in depth as the English league is competitive and of a high enough standard to help bring on players to an acceptable level.
We do not have a divine right to be at the top of the rugby tree but we should be able to aspire to achieve our full potential.
I live in hope that the present position will act as a catalyst between those with some power to change things and the supporters to stop talking and start doing.Hurry up time is running out.
