This is the only reason I will watch MOTD tonight. The perfect game for a neutral like me and the game was all about GOALS GOALS GOALS...

Here is the BBC match report;

Well, predicably you didn't miss too much. Yep, the Pompey-Reading match WAS first on (another premier league record, no?) but the coverage was far less than subsequent matches involving...now let's guess...hmm, would that be that team that's just lost their manager by any chance, who managed a riveting 0-0 scoreline? The very same. No matter, surely the match would be on the front page of the Observer Sports section. How surprising, it's pushed off by...chelsea and a half-page photo of Drogba looking cross. Never mind, let's look inside and...what's this? MORE about Chelsea and another HUGE photo of an equally HUGE Chelsea fan (take a close look - has he really got his willy out? Now that IS showing disrespect) taking a photo of Abramovich. But where is the report about the record-breaking 11 goal match...ah yes, tucked away at the bottom of the page. No wonder both Chelsea players and fans alike believe they are God's own chosen ones when they are given such ill-deserved coverage. Still, we know who provided the real entertainment yesterday, and it wasn't a bunch of spoilt, petulant overpaid cheats (ooh, hope I didn't let my true feelings show there).

We will NEVER be one of the big guns with the media, as, i.e. Not near enough to the major Big cities like London, Birmingham, or Manchester..(Though admittedly near Manchester, look at Blackburn`s title winning Premiership coverage with the press back in `94-`95..Poor!) Everyone seems obsessed with Jose Mourinho & Avram Grant at the mo, & football is taking a back-seat..As with Reading`s Dave Kitson, he does look quite impressive, & took his goal sublimely cool..But England? Small clubs in Mr. McCLaren`s mind like us & Reading??..

Miggy88 " How come they can score 7 past Reading " ?....To be honest with you. I think that P O R T S M O U T H will do well this season. Is just that they had difficult games with Man U , Chel., Liverpool...ETC. THeir Quard has what it takes to be one of the top teams.

I think its worth pointing out that not only was there a missed penalty but also a pefectly good goal by BobaDiop ruled out for offside (replays showed he wasn't). 8-5 would have been too much to comprehend!

just saw the highlights, absolutely wonderful game. ther could have been 13 good goals in this game and what makes it more pleasant is the fact that i was neutral, dont support any of the teams.

In all seriousness though: although, as a Pompey fan, I'm delighted at our current form, I'm slightly fearful of what could happen when the African Cup of Nations kicks off. We'll be without the services of Muntari, Utaka, Benjani (assuming Zimbabwe qualify), Diop, not Kanu or Lauren (I assume they've retired from international footy - hope I'm right). We're a bit thin on the ground for replacements - Matty Taylor, Kranjcar, Pedro Mendez - perhaps even Nugent will take the opportunity to prove the doubters wrong & start looking like an international striker. Utaka going away with Nigeria for the ACN is starting to make the decision to flog Gary o'Neill to 'boro a bit dubious.
