USA v Brazil

Womens Football

The second semi-final of the Women's World Cup is on Thursday at 1300 BST.

The USA go into the game on the back of a 51-match unbeaten run and are twice winners of the competition.

But they face a Brazilian side who looked tasty in the group stages - winning their three games without conceding.

And they have two hot-shots up front in Cristiane and Marta, who are the joint top scorers.

Should be a cracker, but who do you think will come out on top?

Re: mxsquirrel

>I was not writing for the sake spelling or punctuation.

Just as well then hey!

>You are hypocrite and a falsifier.

So are you.

>My pointing out your lies and hypocrisy does not make me a “cry baby” or a “victim.”

And yet you clearly are.

>Your posts denigrating American woman are hateful and demagogic. You could not name a solitary incident of the USA women’s team alleged arrogance or cheating.

You could not quote any part of my text where I said I hated America yet you claimed I did.

>FIFA is a joke, as any international football fan knows. The last men’s world cup was a disgrace with all the red cards and bad penalty calls.

Been reading those conspiracy theories again have you? Get over it.

>As someone who is married to an American and spends a good amount of time there,

Big deal. I’m willing to bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that I have closer ties to America than you – yes that includes family.

>I can say football is not popular there because it is considered to be corrupted by politics, which of course it is.

You can say that if you want but as it has absolutely nothing to do with my original post or the topic of the forum, why would I care? Besides, you don’t really want to get into a debate about ‘America’ and ‘corrupt politics’ do you?

>The American media would also never televise it because it has no commercial, and American football is nothing but three hours of commercials.

Is that supposed to be a defence of America or a criticism? I can’t imagine any sane person who actually enjoys watching three hours of commercials but each to their own.

>Bye Bye puki hope you enjoy seeing Brazil thrashed by Germany in the final.

You have no idea how ironic that final statement is but suffice to say I will smiley(shame you’re beloved America women aren’t there though isn’t it?)

Dear bluemuki sorry for any possible offense. We can agree to disagree on the character of American woman and the conduct of the US team. Everything I wrote was just my opinion and in the spirit of sparing for fun. I agree with you on American politics, and I can’t stand American football.

Peace rose

It is always like this... when a Brazilian player goes down he or she is faking or it is because it is a contact sport. But when the opposite happens, Brazil is a violent team, a "bunch of dogs"...

No one saw the American Team being violent the whole championship? Brazilian, Nigerian and English players felt the pain. Soccer is played with your feet NOT YOUR ELBOWS

mufcinlondon,

Abbey Who? was COMPLETELY anonymous in this game, and if you were even the slightest bit honest to yourself and to everyone here, you would probably agree. I think she does have talent (nowhere near the class of Mia Hamm or Marta), but she did nothing all game, beat no one (except for her retaliation that earned her a caution)and I don't even recall her hitting the target, let alone getting many good touches on the ball. She did despicably little as the leading goal scorer for the USA.

No matter how you slice it, the USA was beaten categorically in every aspect of play. And Abbey was a "no show".

I can understand your humiliation and sympathize; lurching out at the "referee is evil / world is against us" would make sense if you had such high expectations for the US team and were so bitterly dissapointed by the ball control and fluidity of play the US desperately lacked - and this at the hands of a team that the USA has beaten before.

But the truth is that you lost by 4 goals, with your backline looking under siege for most of the game and precious little offence in return.

I am sorry that the US put in such a crap performance - as a fan you deserve more than what they had to offer. And as football fans we were expecting a much better performance than the Solo-versus-Scurrey-own-goal-red-card-whingeing farce that was offered up by the US women.

Here is the quote from coach Ryan before the match:

''Brazil's primary tactic was fouling us to break our rhythm,'' Ryan said, referring to the game three months ago. ''We had more of the ball, and their response to that was just to foul. Brazil has tried to break our rhythm by chopping our players down.''

''The last time we played Brazil, they didn't even try to play football they just kicked us from behind,'' Ryan said.

Brilliant. What a strategist Mr Ryan turned out to be. One of the best bits of unnecesary motivation I've ever heard.

yeah I missed that one sorry, I agree with all that have picked up on it and the other incident.

CHRISTIANE SHOULD HAVE HAD A PENALTY.

MARTA RECIVED AN ELBOW IN THE NECK.

So in the end justice done, even if Brazil did handle the ball in the penalty area.

Brazil would have still won, and if Maycon buried her two chances the scoreline would be more severe for the USA.

So onto tomorrow COME ON THE SELECAO' COME ON CARINHAS....COME ON MARINHAS...WIN IT FOR BRAZIL, WIN IT FOR HISTORY, DO IT FOR THE YOUNG BRAZILIAN GIRLS WHO HOPE TO PLAY FOR BRAZIL IN THE FUTURE!

My prediction for tomorrow BRAZIL 3 - GERMANY 1

BRAZIL ARE THE BEST, FOOTBALL IS NOTHING WITHOUT BRAZIL and the most entertaining team is Brazil and the goal of the tournament is either Marta's back flip goal aginst USA the fourth one, or Christiane's winner against Australia, we she turned four defenders and shot from long range in the top right hand corner.....even Jorge Barcellos was crying at that one, he couldn't believe it, nor could I, WHAT A GOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!

If Brazil can do the same tomorrow, i'm sure without doubt they will lift the World Cup for the 1st TIME, about time too!!

God Bless Brazil tomorrow!!!smileywinkeye

Brazil are absolute class, i just can't see what Germany can do to stop them tomorrow. If Germany try to play the physical game they will just pick up cards because the referees haven't seen through the Brazilans' ability to get free kicks out of nothing, if they attack they might score one or two if they're lucky but Brazil have far more pace and will tear the Germans apart on the break.

That said, attacking has to be Germany's best option, but i just can't see Marta, Christiane and Daniela failing to score at least two between them. And with the likes of Formiga and Maycon breaking forward from midfield there will be other sources for goals to come from.

In four years' time i think this fixture will be much closer but at the moment no-one knows how to cope with Brazil and i think that will be shown tomorrow. 3 goal victory for Brazil as far as I'm concerned.

Como Ve Voce'? Obrigad! Hello.

Firstly I have guts to come back and admit defeat, and admit that my 3-1 prediction to Brazil was wrong. OK, i'm not right all the time, but Brazil were on a high, and my prediction felt absolutley certain at the time, I will not go back on it, never.

Today, OK Brazil lost, but I also felt they were unlucky, god wasn't with them today. On another day chances would have gone in, penalties not missed, and substituitions were made after a penalty was taken, I was surprised at Jorge Barcellos decision, but I can't put all blame on him, never.

I was sickened to see that everytime Brazil got the ball, their players were on the floor, especially Marta or they were muscled by 4 Germans. On another day, a red card would have been shown, there was no way Brazil were diving today, no way, and anyway, all teams dive, why is it blown out of proportion when Brazil do it? Commentator's go on a high like they are on drugssmiley

Brazil have lots to be proud of today, their first final, maybe nerves played a part, inexperience.

MARTA gets Golden Boot, Player of the Tournament.

I'm not saying Brazil should be proud for no reason or because they lost, like other countries do to make themselves feel better, but these Brazilian Girls have come a long way even without a National League in Brazil, and to get to the final is a major achievement in Brazilian Women's football.

I'M SAD, BUT NOT TOO MUCH!

Well done to the Selecao' Canarinhas, Marinhas...long live Brazilian Football, it's sexy Joga Bonita!!!!!

AIYEEEEEE!!!winkeyerose

OBRIGADO!smiley
God Bless!
