Torres playing - a thought...............

Premier League Liverpool

Rafa is getting a lot of stick at the minute from a lot of quarters about not playing Torres and then when he does the boy goes and scores a hat trick.

I just thought to myself Rafa does things for good reasons so why not pick Torres more and wanted to just run this posisble reason by you guys to see what you think (liverpool fans only)

Torres is 24, just moved to a new country and a new style of play, speaks hardly any english (other than the ladka imporession he does when receiving MOM awards) Surely the boss is protecting the boy? Trying to get him settled in fully and integrated into the clubs way of doing things jsut like the other signings he's made in the past?

Yes he cost over 20 million but should the boss not protect his players and bring them along at the right pace for them not for us, who are quite impatient usually. I rememmebr us wanting owen to play every game until that day at leeds when his hamstring went first, then we said houllier overplayed him. I don't want to see torres kicked off the pitch by english defenders and injured as he's settling in and discovering what the game is all about over here.

Yes he was brilliant against reading but thier constant fouling and the ref giving no protection could have meant an injury before he got his first goal and then we'd be giving rafa stick over that.

So my thoughts lead me to the conclusion that Rafa is simply looking after his asset, not taking too much too soon.

Was he not protecting gerrard too seeing as if he could play against isreal and russia he could have played for us but wasn't risked after the chelsea injection lesson.

what do you guys think? I mean we've crouch who cost 7 mil, kuyt who cost 10 and others to play, like or hate them you'd expect as fans or as manager that they'd at least be good enough agasint birmingham?

I'd love to see him play every game and if i was in charge i probably would play him a lot more, but im not in charge, Benitez is.

I don't think many people have a right to with what Benitez has achieved and we all know how capable he is and should back him like the majority of us do. He knows what he's doing.

A few times when taking a few kicks it looks like Torres is enjoying the knocks and as long as theres not bad challanges flying in then i see it as a good thing.

It will toughen him up a bit and get him used to our way of playing which can only be a bonus to how he is already playing, which is great.

I love the guy, he got a ruthless streak to him and a nice bit of aggression kept under control by a cool head. He's going to be special for us, even Mourinho cudn't begrudge him a lil of his specialness.

Cheesy:

Well that's the point isn't it?

I certainly don't have a problem with physical sides or tactics, or even targetting a player with that sort of play, especially as Torres seems to thrive on it.

However, there is a difference between being physical within the laws of the game, and simply repeatedly hacking at a player with dangerous challenges and geting away with it...which is what was happening at Reading.

Rafa's never brought this issue up before, so he obviously took exception to the Reading game.

You know what? He had a right too. Much of their defending, form what I've seen on highlights, was an absolute disgrace. It's astonishing that Bikey stayed on the pitch.

Leave me out Rafa. Its the Carling cup and of course he is going to get booted up in the air. All quality players will get "special attension" to see if they will react. It happens to Ronney, Ronaldo, Beckham, Rolandino, who ever.
Now people think they have got into his head with you complaining....
Its not our fault you spent 27 million on a fella you wont play in real games!
Stop whining, play him in as many games as possible, and get him going.
You think he would get special treatment playing in the Champions league, playing in turkey or russia...
Its part of the game and you have to deal with it I am afraid

Spot on rtjloco, Benitez is a giant hypocrit. Maybe referees should ban tackles altogether on Liverpool players? Perhaps even award them a goal or 2 each game for playing such amazing football?!?!

Rafa is a giant baby who seeks to blame anyone else when something goes wrong and wants all the praise when it goes right.

Im sorry thats just typical of the arrogant way that Liverpool think. When we play them next i will be screaming 'kick him kick him'

why should he be treated any different to any other player, this is english football and if hes too soft to play our game let him go back to spain.

Come on people, whats the proble here?? Play Torres every game? ofc not, we have several worldclass strikers to make use of and the fact that everyone is scared of torres right now makes him more lethal than normal...but this isnt gonna stay like this so use it wisely.
As for Rafa protecting Torres or moaning all the time as someone said, its all part of the game....Rafa brings puts this in Public light and it automatically puts pressure on the ref's in game and from liverpool's point of view any extra yard that this buy torres on the field is great isnt it? Its just off field tactics but thankfully more subtle than Jose's personal attacks on managers and players...yes that was just off field tactics too.
Rafa has a proven record and has taken LFC a long way and before the big bucks landed!!! give the guy a break, think outside of the box n all that cos at the end of the day english football needs guys like him to add that extra dimension that it needs cos as much success as england may or may not have in europe it is still regarded in europe as a 2 dimensional and technically poor league, I live in holland which is extremely multicultural and this is CLEARLY the general concensus.

Once again Benitez comes up with a smasher! "If you want quality in this country we need to protect the quality players". So does that mean that players of less quality do not get fouls that of quality players?! Ridiculous.

Also, in this country the gritty challenges, "special treatment" of certain players is part of the game. Even when i was in under 9's i would be told to "hit him hard, show him he's in for a game" etc. It is down to the referees to punish where punishable.

Torres is just a squad player anyway isn't he?!

Rafa's a top class manager but anyone can see that we need to play Torres or we'll struggle to score goals! Ok Torres did take a few knocks on tuesday but what do you expect playing someone of his quality against a weak reading side in the mickey mouse cup!!! Benitwez should stop moaning and get back to what hes good at... managing liverpool football club.

I personally absolutely Love Rafa's quote about not needing Torres for Birmingham he needs him for the last few games of the season fit when you could be fighting for a League or a CL. Well the CL you can't argue with him, but with the League Liverpool are usually out of the running with 10 games to go because he has arsed around with his selection so much earlier on in the season.

SEOidiot. You say "why should he be treated differently to any other player?" SAF is asking for protection for Ronaldo... Your name is living up to itself
