Senderos + Arsenal Centre Backs

Arsenal

Is only me that believes that Senderos is not good enough to play in our first team?

Granted he is strong and ok in the air and does have some moments of genius (e.g. his clerance of the line yesterdy), but every time our defence gets caught out he always seems to be the cause (i.e not marking properly, or getting caught out by a ball over the top), he does not seem to have good ball control skills (terrible passign ability) and he is not the fastest defneder in the world. Indeed his demolition at the hands of Drogba in a previous season shows that against top class forwards he cannot cope.

He has been a loyal and hard working servant for the club, but I feel that he has been given his chance and appears not to be good enough, every time I see his name on the team sheet I get nervous.

We have played well in attack this season but we should not get carreid away as we have defended poorley but simply have not been punished (Spurs had tonnes of good chances, even Newcastle yesterday should have scored two), we need to imporve at the back or we will not win anything (we will get punished as soon as we play a quality side with strikers that can actually finish)

Our first choice centre backs are Toure and Gallas, but if either gets injured here are my possible alternatives (not in any order)... Gilberto (done well this season), Diarra, Sagna (can both play there), Djourou. Was it a mistake to let Upson go all those years ago?

I agree, djourou and hoyte played a lot of games last season and played well. Senderos can be a very good player but he is an absolute muppet sometimes asswell.

You forget that this is the very same defender that polayed solidly for us in the Champions league.I think you are too crticila mate, every defender plays in a defensive team and they cover up for each other, he cleared the ball from the line, Fabianski is praised for keeping a clean sheet. If Senderos makes a mistake, we all blow it out of proportion. The Drogba incident last season was testimony that Drogba danced his way past alnmost any defender, inclusing Carrager, and remember his turn and shoot against Liverpool.Jay Jay Okocha ones ran rings around our defense, Giggs did the same etc, it is common and normal, defenders get beat, the othe defenders in the defense team can then cover up and so on as much as strikers miss chances. He is not world class, true, but with time, he can be moulded to be one.I stand by him.

I don't normally care about this no English players in our team crap but i really think we should go for Steven Taylor of Newcastle in January as one of our centrebacks. he'd cost between 6 & 10 mil

Was it a mistake to let Upson go? Blimey, why stop there, it's only four - or is it five? - years ago. Why not get Tony Adams out of retirement?

By all means talk about our present situation, and discuss what we can do in the future. But please, PLEASE, don't keep harping on the past.

And for what it's worth - I think that Senderos will come good with a few games in the first team. As people have said, he was a member of the Champion's League team that was almost unbeatable; he kept Sol Campbell out of the Cup Final team the year before - and helped keep Man U at bay in the most one-sided Cup Final I have ever had the displeasure to watch...(though I enjoyed the penalties).

He's never been quite the same since he dislocated his arm at the World Cup. But he'll come good.

But every team needs someone to moan at. It used to be Cygan - now it's Senderos.
