World Twenty20 final ratings

India win

Wow, what a match! Well done to India and bad luck Pakistan, but to use a tired old cliche, cricket was the real winner.

Here are my player ratings for the game in Johannesburg - feel free to add yours....

INDIA

Gautam Gambhir - 8
Held India's innings together with some sparkling strokes, but lost momentum after being denied the strike mid-innings.

Yusuf Pathan - 5
Almost run out without facing a ball, he marked his debut with a six in the opening over of the game and later took an important catch to get rid of Younus Khan.

Robin Uthappa - 4
Failed with the bat, but took a smart slip catch in the first over of Pakistan's reply to lift his side. Later dropped Yasir Arafat in the deep but it did not prove costly.

Yuvraj Singh - 3
After his spectacular hitting in previous matches, Yuvraj lost patience on the big occasion and gave his wicket away with a rash shot. Not called upon to bowl by his captain.

Mahendra Dhoni - 6
Contributed little to India's total, but led his side ably in the field before gambling on Joginder Sharma for the final over. Fortunately for him, it paid off.

Rohit Sharma - 7
Came to the crease with his side struggling on 111-4 but batted senisbly to make an unbeaten 30 off 22 balls to carry his team to a total which proved just enough.

Irfan Pathan - 9
Dismissed danger men Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi in the same over and won the Man of the Match award for figures of 3-16.

Harbhajan Singh - 3
Only called upon to bowl three overs by Dhoni, but the last was very expensive as Misbah hit three sixes, the last two from a long hop and full toss.

Joginder Sharma - 5
Unheralded before the tournament, he will go home a hero after taking the wicket which give India victory.

Sree Santh - 4
Well below his best with the ball, despite sending down the only maiden in the final, but bowled Sohail Tanvir and held his nerve under the skier from Misbah which secured victory for his side.

RP Singh - 7
India's total was 23 runs short of skipper Dhoni's target, but Singh revived them by dismissing Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal with the new ball. Later bowled Umar Gul to end with 3-26.

PAKISTAN

Mohammad Hafeez - 3
Failed to keep India's batsmen in check with the ball and then fell for one in the opening over with his side looking for a good start to their reply.

Imran Nazir - 5
Played some bold shots, but went into the game with a groin injury which cost him dear when he was run out with his side going well on 53-2 in the sixth over.

Kamran Akmal - 3
Had little to do during India's innings except gather throws and did not justify the decision to move him up three in the batting order with a third-ball duck.

Younus Khan - 4
After a patchy tournament, he appeared to be finding his touch when he misjudged a lofted stroke and holed out at mid-on.

Shoaib Malik - 5
Did the first half of his job well in the field, but was unable to rescue his side from a poor start with the bat, pulling a short ball to mid-wicket after making only eight.

Misbah-ul-Haq - 8
If he could play the final ball of the match again, it's a fair bet Misbah would choose his shot differently but before that he batted superbly to carry his side to the brink of victory.

Shahid Afridi - 3
Came to the wicket with his side in trouble on 76-5 and threw his wicket away second ball. A great entertainer on his day, but shot selection often leaves a lot to be desired.

Yasir Arafat - 4
Brought into the side to strengthen Pakistan's attack, he was only entrusted with two overs. Struck a couple of powerful blows with the bat but could not give Misbah the support he needed.

Sohail Tanvir - 6
Relatively unknown before the tournament, he showed no sign of nerves on the big occasion - bowled tidily enough and his two scoring shots were both sixes in a stand of 34 with Misbah.

Umar Gul - 9
Unlucky to be on the losing side after a superb spell of bowling which saw him account for Yuvraj, Dhoni and Gambhir. Now ready to succeed Shoaib Akhtar as Pakistan's wicket-taking spearhead.

Mohammad Asif - 5
Made the initial breakthrough for his side, but only called upon to bowl three overs. Hit a boundary off the only ball he faced but was powerless at the other end as Misbah was dismissed and India took the trophy.

Gambhir at least 9 and very clever cricket did not let situation pressure Yuvraj
Rohit 8
RP Singh 8 for excellent bowling
Younis Khan responsible for Imran Nazir's run out and does not have a shade of his old form
Misabh Ul Haq should have been the player of the series. A very disciplined/controlled innings
In the end India/Pakistan share top two positions.
A very good job by organizers and match officials

what more can Ghambir do?! surely a ten needed there. Agree with 3 being WAY too harsh for yuvraj, what on earth are you thinking?! He's not there to play an innings, he's there to hit big or get out and thats what he did. A three is deserving of someone who wasted a lot of balls without scoring or getting out. Yuvraj played for the team. How is Yuvraj's performance in this final equivalent to Afridis? I'm english but thats just madness

Erm, i think you watched a different game to me. In the final i watched Afridi bowled a really good spell, but in the one you watched he seems to have played as a batsman only. Yusuf Pathan scored some important quick runs and bowled a good over, which you seem to have not noticed. Also Uttapa and Yuvraj were good in the field so deserve more. Dhoni captained well and kept well, and harbajan joginder and sreesanth also deserve a few more. Very harsh on arafat, "Brought into the side to strengthen Pakistan's attack, he was only entrusted with two overs." firstly he isn't captain so shouldn't be blamed for only bowling 2 overs, and i think you'll find he was brough into the side purely to bowl at the death, with Gul Asif Hafeez, Afridi, Tanvir all in the side aswell how could they all have had 4 overs? very harsh on all players really, i think my cat could've written a more acurate player rationg article.

Reads like ratings by someone who watched the scoreboard not the game...

Uthappa's fielding certainly demands a higher rating - what about the Nazir run-out - and Sharma made his runs in 16 balls not 22. RP's bowling effort (tight at the death, genuine bowler's wickets upfront) was equal to if not better than Pathan's (couple of bad shots by the batsmen).

uthappa:6 well you mentioned the catch he took but completely missed the brilliant run out he executed. He got rid of the dangerman Imran Nazir who was looking to take the game away.

it seems that only England players get a better rating from the BBC even after a poor performance, and even there, someone like Kevin Pietersen, who happens to be the top scorer for England gets a 5, and someone like Prior gets 6 or 7.
awful!, absolutely awful!!!.

among the Indian players, RP Singh, and Gautam Gambhir should get more. RP should certainly get 8 or more, and GG also could do well with more than 8. so also Rohit Sharma. Shahid Afridi deserves just 2 for the utter rubbish shot he played in such pressure situation. Yuvraj in My view gets 4, and Y Pathan get 6 for his overall performance. and Joginder Sharma has been economic, and got the bigg wicket, and should get 6.

BBC, please get in someone who can do the job!!!.

Not too Bad, Except Misbah is not rated well, His rating should be highest, that means 10.
Imran Nazir & Sohail Tanvir can get more points. Kamran Akmal & M hafeez Deserve 0, Younas Khan only 1. Anyway Misbah was the best. Thanx.
