How to run a football club.

Premier League Arsenal

At a time when every club is competing to see who can rack up the biggest debt, it's good to see that Arsenal are showing that a club can be both successful and profitable at the same time. The likes of Man U, Chelsea and Spurs should take a long look at the model that Arsenal have laid down. They didn't need the millions of a bent Thai PM, the rubles of an egotistical oil magnate who wants to pick the team, neither have they allowed themselves to be bought out be a pack of Americans who immediately plunged them £750m into the red. They have stuck with simply good management and sound investment to create a cracking team. A great example for the modern game.

It's getting a bit much now. The BBC have officailly become WUMs. Who on earth cares what anyone on the Arsenal board thinks of Chelsea's plans? Of course rival clubs will scoff. I'm amazed Hill-Wood is even interested enough to comment. The timing of this story course is absolutely classic - the day after Arsenal are proclaimed the "richest" club in Britain. If everyone is so much better than Chelsea then just leave them be.

I have nothing against the business side of the football. After all look at the price tags, agents, and brands involved.

But to try to turn a club into an exclusive brand as if it's %100 pure silk from Dior,it's ridiculous.

You play and if you're capable to win then you get rewarded. That has always been the case.

If someone thinks buying the most expensive players and managers will yeild such a result then that person is on the wrong pitch. It's better to buy Tiger woods, his dad and a golf course in Monaco. I bet it would be more profitable too because all these rich people will pay millions to be club members there.

Abramovich is in the wrong sport. Football is the average-man's sport. It's not the classy beach resort tennis or golf where you show off your private jet or helicopter.

The English teams that took the fight to Chelsea were United in the league and Liverpool in the cups. Arsenal sat in north london talking about youth policy and entertaining football. Now that Chelsea are struggling, out crawl new "financially stable" Arsenal. Welcome back...

Arsenal did not loose to Chelsea in the EPL last season. They wiped the floor with you home and away, and blew Liverpool out of the way last year. I don't really get your point..

And did the double over United.

But STILL managed to find themselves 21 points adrift of United...

Becuase they couldn't get the points away to teams like Sheffield Utd.

Anyway, what people fail to remember is that Abramovich is just underwriting Chelsea's debt. He's not actually paying for anything, as far as I am aware anyway. The idea is that Chelsea as a business would be able to play this all off themselves in 10 years time when they are a "global" team. Naturally this is dependent on them winning trophies and haveing a large fan base.

Arsenal were smart in thier planning as the money they got didn't depend on the team winning trophies - they already had the fans. I think Arsenal deserve to be one of the flag-bearers for the Premiership - purely due to the way they play football. I hope they get the global recognition that Man United & Liverpool get, provided they start winning trophies.

laugh I love the way everyone remembers that match.

Exactly, it's not about beating the big teams, because they'll all inevitably lose points to random teams away anyway. Could be down to injuries or form or general bad performances against a certain team, but they will drop points. That's why United won last year, they beat teams like Bolton, Blackburn, Reading, Everton mostly with ease. These are the types of teams capable of snatching points. Arsenal have played relatively easy teams so far, people forget how tough it can be when they play away to certain middle table teams ok

I gotta say this is the best post I have seen on here for a while. An electric debate between fans of many clubs, with very few silly posts. Well done all this is what 606 is supposed to be about, rather than the cr*p that most herberts post. well done

I wasn't talking about United v Arsenal - although painful, not sure 2 late goals consitute a floor wiping, and we did have the consolation of winning the premiership.

My point was that Arsenal's vitriol towards Chelsea is down to the fact you've failed to compete with them for the last 3 years. OK, you drew with them last year but Wenger never managed to beat Mourinho and you finished well off the premiership pace...

Also your correct that over the last 3 years chelski have been more sucessful than Arsenal, however Arsenal are a bigger side than " No History Chelski" who cant even fill there stadium for a champions league game. laugh
