Is British Tennis moving forward???

British Tennis

Now Henman has hung up his tennis shoes for the last time, we have 4 British players in the top 400 of mens tennis.

In 2002, we had exactly double that number of players (8 for those who struggle with maths).

Will our win in the Davis Cup just paper over the cracks of what is a dire standard of British men?

When will it all change and what is going to happen to make it change?

Have three players in the doubles top 100 is all very well but...

a) none of the top guys play doubles seriously, so being in the top 100 means little

b) there's only one doubles rubber in a Davis Cup tie anyway - singles has to be the focus

Apart from Andy Murray, we have no real strength in world singles and it's a big worry

Is British tennis moving forward?

In a word - no. Not unless AM can win a big title (not necessarily Wimbledon, any slam will do) and act as a catalyst to get lots of youngsters wanting to emulate him.

The LTA need to wake up and realise what century we are in then perhaps do a proper job and encourage players to reach their full potential rather than slagging them off all the time (Funny isn't it how the LTA always accuse their players and anyone else for that matter of slagging it off as an organisation but is more than happy to pull the rug on those it purports to be supporting?)

The answer to the question Is British Tennis moving forward is NO unfortunately because:

a) Tim henman who was the second best british player has retired.

b) Andy Murray who was ranked in top 10 is now ranked 18.

To make Britain in a good shape is to have all their top 4 or 5 players ranked in top 100. In this way they can do well in davis cup.

Finally, how to make the top British players in top 100 must be answered to British players.

Yes we have a fine doubles player Jamie-who has his head screwed on and also fitness allowing-Andy. They will make a better team than Henman/Rusedski as they were not the best of mates(diplomacy!)
Andy and Greg would have made a great team with Jamie but Greg was getting on a bit.
Henman chose not to play latterly -till the 11 th hour and the need for a home stage that he could maybe win something on for his farewell. It would never have been at Wimbledon as realistically his slam playing days were over and he was given the easiest singles match of the tie.
As Duggie rightly pointed out this last tie was won by the fact the real Croatian team were not playing anyhow!
Good lucj to the guys and lets get some more young players to help/
Why didnt we let Djoko have a chance playing for GB. Lloyd must be kicking himself.

Comment by Tabitha 98 AKA Henmansaloser.

" As from yesterday we can hold our heads up high and not be the laughing stock of the world "
LOL LOL.
Surely that comment alone is the laughing stock of the world.?
Well that is what the rest is of the message board is saying . LOL
The absolute worst thing in British Tennis to happen in living memory is Tim Henman retiring. As from the 22nd of September 2007 British Tennis went back 15 YEARS . AND 15 YEARS AGO IT WAS IN AN APPALLING STATE.

" Why didnt we have Novak Djokovic playing for Great Britain"
John Lloyd must be kicking himself??? LOL LOL.
Er could it be something to do with the fact that he is Serbian?? LOL
Anyway why would he want to take British citizenship?
He will be disrespected in this country as much as Tim Henman was by the less knowledgeable ones if he did. Why bother . At least he comes from a nation that appreciates success unlike th minority in this country.
Forget Henman bashers . Lets have Djocovic bashers instead. LOL

Henman has retired get over it and find a new song.
Andy is in our sights and Federer I think has earned the right to take some time off.
Nadal isn't playing right now and was not in great shape for USO so I think No 1 spot is safe for now.
Feds the man!

I couldnt agree more. So why still all the posts about Henman from you. Do you find Tim Henman offensive? A simple question. If you do he has gone now . So move on.
I will continue to post as many messages as I like about Tim Henman as I think he did an awful lot for British Tennis and he was the ultimate pro. I will probably post more than ever as I am determined that people will not try to blacken his name. He will not be forgotten rest assured.. As regards to Tim Henmans career I know what I am talking about . And he was a fine Tennis player and that is the sentimnets from 99.9% of posters on this board and in the U.K
