Liverpool lose Agger and Alonso

Premier League Liverpool

Liverpool's Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso
could be out for up to six weeks after both suffered broken metatarsals.

How much of a blow will losing these two players be to Liverpool?

Massive loss both, especially Agger as the cover in midfield is still world-class. This is now a real chance for Arsenal and United to get some ground on Chelsea and Liverpool. However i think that Chelsea are still rocked more than Liverpool and it will be incredably hard for the Blues to win it this season. Antthing could happen later on, but this could be the start of another united-dominated season.

both very big blows you have midfield cover, but hypia is too slow and indecisive. not same player 3 seasons back.

both r absolutely big blows.on being missed, for alonso i believe we've got adequate cover but for agger, maan do we need serious backup. hyypia is good but he's not yesterdays hyypia cos he's lost pace. hope we move for s. taylor in january or some good defender. rafa's eyebrow shud av risen on he's refusal to renew he's contract at newcastle, probably d reason why d sad gaffer allardyce is attackin rafa.

We had the warning shot a couple of weeks ago when Carra & Sami were both injured in the same game. Now Agger is out, when will we have 3 fit & strong again? We are stretched there now, any more is potentially catastrophic!
Xabi Alonso is pure class but we do have quality cover in midfield. Importantly where games are won and lost! Rafa should be congratulated on this aspect and I'm sure he'll address the other.
I hope we come through this period with a bit of luck!

The loss of Agger will definitely test Liverpool's defence at the back. Hyypia is still a good defender but his lack of pace will certainly cause problems over the next 6 weeks.

The loss of Alonso will not be so critical, Mascherano and Sissoko are great players.

Over the next 6 weeks the big games for Liverpool will be Tottenham, Arsenal and the Merseyside derby. They'll be back for the big one on 15th December vs Man Utd on 15th December!

Arbeloa can come in to centre half, panic averted. His reading of the game is second to none.

We have an abundance of talent and cover in midfield. Quite literally, we have the best midfield in the world.

Next question.

as for the midfield, there is no problem we have a replica i.e masch. momo and prob lucas, but for the defence, that might be a serious weakness, if we can get riise or aurelio or one other player who can be an Agger it would be nice

Losing Alonso at a time where Liverpool are unable to string 5 passes together will hurt since he's the best passer they have, but his injury coincides with the poorest form he's had at the club since joining.

Agger's loss is a big worry because, as everyone has identified, Liverpool have very little cover in the CB positions. This is no surprise, because Man U, Arsenal and even Chelsea haven't had cover in those positions for some time now. Arsenal have to rely on the decidedly unreliable Senderos, Man U look weak whenever they're without Vidic and Chelsea miss Terry or Carvalho.
Hyypia is still a superb defender, but if he has to move out of position to intercept a ball or if there's a chase on, he's in trouble because of that lack of pace.
It's a shame that Heinze bid failed, because he would have filled the gap nicely. Benitez will have to do something in the January window.

agree with the general consesus, Alonso is not such a huge loss becasue of players that we have that we can play there.

Agger is a big blow because the obvious cover in Hyppia is obviously lacking in pace.

Is anyone wondering about the availability of Micah Richards?? Hw would be a fantastic player for us to have, someone who could go up and down the right more energetically than finnan. he would also give good cover in these situations as he is also a fantastic centre back. Im surprised there isn't more speculation about his future becuse lets face it, he is gonna be great and he wont want to be left at man city!
