INTERNATIONAL COURT OF APPEAL
WITHDRAWAL OF APPEAL
18.09.2007

At the qualifying session of the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix, the Panel of the Stewards of the meeting found that one of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes ("McLaren") drivers had obstructed another in the pit lane. A penalty was imposed preventing McLaren from scoring points in the Constructors Championship at that meeting.
McLaren have notified the International Court of Appeal this morning that they wish to withdraw their appeal against the decision of the Stewards.

I find F1 as boring as golf, but to fine a team that amount of money and strip them of the points is ridiculous, peoples jobs are involved here. It seems the top men are worried about upsetting Ferrari

The stewards in Hungary were wrong to interfere in an inter-team problem but I guess Ron Dennis has had enough controversy this annus horibilis to last a lifetime. I'm not sure if I were Ron I'd even want to finish this year… doesn't matter which of his drivers wins the championship, it will be tainted and if Raikkonen wins, it will be double defeat at the hands of Ferrari… and the FIA. Tempted to wish that Alonso would win it hopefully to stop the sulking and whinging before he goes to Renault.

Interesting points raised earlier about technology. My feeling is that it's because the rules are so restricted that development is all going down one path and all the cars look the same. Ban aero appendages and restrict wing sizes but free-up the regs in general and the good designer will come up with a different solution from that of the genius.

For once why don't many of you stop reacting as the British you are instead of the F1 fan you are supposed to be? McLaren have polluted the sport and should have been shown the way to the door!

I was expecting this. If McLaren pursued the appeal they could gain little - Alonso's grid demotion is over and done and non-appealable and the Hungary constructors points cannot now be restored, other than symbolically, following last weeks WMSC decision. However, should the appeal fail it would be open to the FIA to apply a further sanction. Why risk that for no real possible gain?

I can't believe there are still people going on about how unfair it all is, it's Mosley's fault, the FIA's, Ferrari equally to blame for Steüney, and such ludicrous nonsense. I sometimes wonder abour the comprehensions skills of some on here.

Ferrari are NOT responsible for Stepney. He is a grown man. He has worked for Ferrari for years and years. He knew the risks of what he was allegedly doing. Damned all to do with Ferrari. Now if he had stolen McLaren data and given that to Ferrari, who were then found culpable...that would have been different. However, in the real scenario, Coughlan decided to accept and keep the date. Result, catastrophy for McLaren. All they had to say was no. But they didn't.

In the days of the MS procssions, I usd to hope for McLaren to break them, to put some spark unto the preceedings. But not this way...not this way.

It is right for Ferrari tofight tooth and nail to win. It is also right for McLaren and any other team to do the same.

So please take your bias to the garage and park it; and apply some grown up logic.

McLaren screwed up. That's the sad fact here.

I totally agree that they should appeal. They should at least be refunded the money which has gone to their counterparts (Ferrari) probably 100%. I also agree with the comment of jastjazz, Ferrari should also been banned. It’s just been a big fix, the courts, Ferrari bosses and the “P2 form”, one big scandal.

I think ferrari were the first to find out that their information was leaked and they rightly sacked their employee...but Mclaren even after knowing that they had ferrari information did nothing to destroy the info...i guess they really were very glad recieving information from ferrari. When was the last season Mclaren has had the same kind of reliability as this year...you will have to go back to 98or99 season, from then on they were very inconsistent until this year.I guess they found the missing piece from ferrari.

I think many on here don't appear to realise that a wide cross-section og people don't agree with what has occurred.

Go here for a laugh by somoene called Chariots:
