After Davenport's brilliant comeback in Bali last week, the tennis world slowly starts t pick up again after the post-slam lull.

2)Jankovic b. Davenport 6-3 7-5

Final
6)Szavay vs 2)Jankovic

Semi Finals:Jelena Jankovic will play for her 5th singles title of the year after ending the stunning comeback from Davenport. Jelena who had failed to beat Lindsay in 4 attempts, was able to attack the American's under-par serve well enought o protet her won weak serve. The other semi saw 6th seed youngster Szavay reach her 3rd WTA final of the year with a thrashing of China's Peng. Szavay, who came into the match with a 0-2 H2H against Peng will now break into the top 20 no matter Sunday's result.

Final
Korytsseva vs 4)Kirilenko

SFs:2 vastly different semis today, 1 featuring 2 players that have been in the top 20, the other featuring two players who have never been ranked as a high as double figures before. The latter of these featured Britain's Anne Keothavong who bttled hard in the first set but eventually lost out to Ukrain's Korrytsseva. In the other semi Kirilenko continued her remarkable return to form with a 3 set win over 2nd seed Hantuchova, who once again proved why she'll never challenge for a GS. Kirilenko will now play in her first final for over 2 years.

9)Tu

SFs
1)Golovin b. 8)Dushevina 7-6 6-2
4)Srebotnik b. 7)Dulko 6-2 6-3

SF:Two decent semi finals (in terms of the players competing) given that it's a Tier IV. In the first, Top seed and top 20 player Golovin came through a tight first set against Russian Vera Dushevina. However in the second set fatigue caught up with Vera after she felt the effects of her marathon QF against Zvonareva. In the other semi Srebotnik gave the home fans something to cheer about with a comfortable win over 22 year old Dulko. Srebotnik will now play in the title match at Portoroz for the second time having been the runner up 2 years ago.

I agree, Joff....

It's nice to see Keothavong winning a couple of matches in a row. It's a start, at least. Did Mirza pull out?

Davenport beat Dementieva 7-6,6-1. Into the semi-finals now. Jankovic and Szavay have also advanced at Beijing. But to me this is Lindsay's tournament to lose....

Keothavong has won her quarter-final match 6-1 6-3 and next plays the Ukranian Koryttseva who is ranked 164.

If she gets past the Ukrainian, who's the likely finlaist? Kirilenko?

A home player puts out Mauresmo in three sets in Beijing....

A forgettable year from the Frenchwoman!

Most likely Kirilenko or Hantuchova, Mike both of whom I would imagine to be a step too far....

I would expect her opponent in the final to be Hantuchova which would be some scalp if she was to win that one.

I hope it isn't hantuchova, I personally have very little time for the Slovak....

The WTA website totally stole my idea about the battle of the Veras!!! laugh

Keothavong lost her semi-final to Koryttseva 7-6,6-3 which is disappointing given that she was the first opponent who had a lower ranking.

This good run should mean that she gets direct entry into better quality tournaments.

Pre-match Analysis

Beijing, Tier II

(2)Jankovic vs (6)Szavay H2H 0-0

A potentially great final could be on the cards if both players can hold their nerve. Both of them have enjoyed brilliant years on the tour, Jelena breaking into the worlds top 3 and Szavy climbing over 80 places and now poised to make the top 20. The key factors will be how well each one serves as both have weak 2nd serves, this means both will rely heavily on playing a good return game. Jelena is the better mover of the tow and will bring more experience into the match but Szavay is capable of some impressive groundstrokes and is now slouch in defense. Jelena in 2 set however.

Kolkata, Tier III.

(4)Kirilenko vs Koryttseva H2H 0-0

Perhaps two surprising finalists in this match. Maria Kirilenko has had a brilliant summer hard court season, featuring wins over Jankovic and Mirza, and after a poor 18 months looks set to go back into the top 20 soon. The other finalist had never even reached a WTA tour QF prior to this tournament but has taken advantage of the top half of the draw after all 4 seeds, lost or retired before R2. Maria has played magically all week however and will over power her opponent in 2 sets.

Portoroz, Tier IV

(1)Golovin vs (4)Srebotnik H2H 1-1

This final has two players who before this week had not been enjoying a good season, Golovin had suffered a succession of early round defeats since Roland Garros and Srebotnik had reached just 2 quarter finals all year. However both have ripped through the draw his week and will be confident of their chances in the final. The H2H lies at 1-1 but Golovin won their only meeting this year with a 6-0 6-2 thrashing. However Katerina will have the crowd behind her and this will propel her to a tight 3 set win.
