Silvestre out for season

Manchester United
comment on the article

Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Silvestre, 30, was stretchered off just before half-time in Saturday's 1-0 win at Everton after collapsing in pain.

How much of a blow is the injury to United this season?

This is another example of fate trying to teach SAF not to be too hasty in getting rid of players with whom he has fallen out. Ferguson was rash to alienate and to get rid of Heinze, who is a better full-back than Silvestre. Another example of what Robbie Burns meant when he wrote: "The best laid plans of mice & men gang aft agley ..." (Hugh)

SAF didn't alienate Heinze, that player whinged and whined when Evra was playing more than him and instead of staying loyal and fighting for his place, he threw his toys out of his pram and demanded a move. And you cannot keep a player against his will so SAF gave him permission to leave (Just not to one of the three big rivals in the Prem).

Can't say fairer than that.

We had too many full backs last season with Evra, Heinze and Silvestre. IT was not for the fact that Silvestre received two injuries which limited him to 13 appearances he would probably have also demanded a move this summer. Heinze going was the right thing to do. He asked for a move to LFC and fought for it.

Even with JOS and Silvestre out I can give you at least two players who can play this position fine. One of which, in Evans, I have more overall faith than JOS.

Don't forget, with the amount of midfield players we have it means O'shea can cover for Evra in the left back position.

JOS is injured for approximately 4 to 5 weeks and I would like to see Evans, Simpson and Pique gets some games at his expense anyway. They are never going to develop if they are behind someone like JOS who has never hit the heights of his fantastic first season. The JOS of now is not the maurading attack minded full back of 2002/03.

when United get injuries we end up getting loads all at once and to players in similar positions. like last year with our defence and 2004 with our strikers.

Bolton fan in peace.
cant say id want to be in silvestres shoes right now, thats not a nice injury at all.
BUT, you still have a squad full of quality and so long as you dont get too many injuries i think (hope) you should still be able to put up a decent title defence. because if im honest, id rather see you guys with the title than say Chelski, or Britains best French team (Arsenal)!!!
good luck for the rest of the season, and good luck to silvestre in his recovery.
