How very sad that a truly wonderful driver should be lost in this way. He was always flat out - so committed - often to the dismay of Nicky Grist of course. There was nobody better to watch - always such good value. He will be very sadly missed by true rally fans. My thoughts are with his wife and daughter and the families of the others who died.

RIP Colin McRae, the sole reason that I am into cars as much as I am.

He defined a generation with his no holds barred driving, and I can remember stopping up late many a night when I was younger, to watch highlights of his many adventures out in the Rallying World.

I was upset when Richard Burns passed away in 2005 (seems so long ago already), but the passing of one of my true heroes has left me somewhat shaken.

As I said before, he seemed to extract as much as humanly possible from the cars he drove, and was one of a kind in that respect. He was never going to win every race, but if races were won on sheer determination and spirit, then Colin McRae would have had more than enough.

Watching his performance in the X Games last summer epitomised why so many people loved and respected him, who else would have enough forethought that after rolling their car, would drop down the gears and continue driving, even though the front end was completely wrecked, and one wheel was hanging off?

RIP Colin McRae, the world of Motorsport, and the British public will miss you.

RT.

Why does this have to happen to the greats? We felt very sad yesterday when the news officially came through, it was as if we had lost a personal friend. Our love and thoughts go to his family and to the others who also are suffering at the moment.

Rest In Peace, Colin. You are gone, but NOT forgotten.

You were the reason I started to follow rallying. Such an icon, my all time favourite rally driver, always on the edge of things

Sympathy to the whole family for such a loss (both Colin AND his son)
