Heskey Breaks Metatarsal

Premier League Wigan Athletic

Sounds like Heskey has broken his metatarsal after limping off during the draw with Fulham.

This is a real blow for us as Sibierski also had to go off injured (although I think that was due to cramp). Marcus Bent and Aghahowa didn't convince me they had Premier League quality, especially after Aghahowa thrashed at that chance towards the end of the game.

So basically we could do with Henri Camara back! Only joking, how does everyone else think we'll do without England's number 9?

Heskey did ok against fairly weak opposition in two home games but the truth is, for crucial away games, we need the Roon back.

I think this is a joke "how does everyone else think we'll do without England's number 9?" don't make me laugh Heskey is, and always will be, useless. Sure he was good against Israel but I thought he was poor against Russia except the flick on. I would've played Rooney and Owen regardless now that idiot manager of ours will have to.

Someone said that Crouch and Ashton would be great foils for Owen.
We saw towards the end of the Russia match that Crouch ISN'T a great foil for Owen. Crouch isn't as aware as Heskey about where Owen will position himself.
Ashton could play a Heskey-style game, but is a totally unknown quantity for Owen.
So McClaren either has to play 4-4-2 with one of these guys, and work the understanding out on the training ground first. Or he plays Rooney, which means that 4-4-2 always turns into 4-4-1-1.
Owen doesn't like this because he has to make his own space instead of the target man making it for him. He gets caught offside a lot.

Rooney could be effective in Moscow, though, because England will be limited to counter-attacks and he's great on the break - if fit.

TBH I don't think much of the world will miss Heskey on the international stage.

Anyway, Owen's due for another injury shortly. No need for a Grandfather type figure to protect him in the next game.

So many people are to quick too jump on the band wagon over here. I admit Heskey did a good job for us but that does not automatically mean he is an automatic choice up front. For example:

1. He might just of gone through some form for England, doesn't really mean he will play like that again next time round (Remember who the opposition were).

2. Heskey was lucky enough to have a midfield that worked and played well together, which other striking partnerships have been less fortunate with in recent years.

3. We have a better striker in Rooney, he's immense. If McClaren cannot tinker with the tactics a little to get the best out of the team with Rooney in it then maybe he is not the right man for the job.

As far as I'm concerned I'm not getting over hyped about England's performances. When we put in a class performance against Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Germany or even Sweden, then I'll start being optimistic.

And for a nation like us to worry about the injury to someone like Heskey is worrying. Why we cannot play technical football with the likes of J. Cole, A. Cole, Gerrard, SWP, Rooney, Owen, Richards, Rio, Terry, etc, in the team is beyond me. Instead we hoof the ball up to the big man up front.

For me McClaren is still not the right man for the job, we need a manager that loves his team to play flowing football. Just look how good we looked when our midfield were passing the ball around before they hoofed it up to Heskey. McClaren does not have the skill or knowledge to get the best out of this England team.

Umm anyone wingeing about the fact that I have described Heskey as "England's number 9" could you please check the teamsheet from the last England game. Next to the number "9" underneath the word "England" I do believe you'll find the name "Emile Heskey". That generally makes him England's current number 9.

And anyway this article was more about how Wigan would cope, but thanks to everyone who actually took it seriously. ok

This is a real shame for Emile. More broadly there is a lot of investment in Sports injuries, should not someone be worried about the number of foot injuris creeping into the game. Boot problem perhaps?
