A Baffling Verdict

Formula One

The verdict of the FIA inquiry into McLaren's dossier is to find them guilty enough to be stripped of all points in 2007, imposed an unprecedented $100m fine, and to have their cars inspected for the 2008 season.

Yet, apparently, McLaren haven't even been prevented from racing their existing cars for the remainder of this season, let alone had any driver points penalised.

This outcome is, quite simply, bizarre.

Given the frankly horrific extent of the punishment, 1 of 2 things is possible:

Either McLaren used the data and information to assist in the construction or competitiveness of their cars, which raises a very serious question which the FIA must answer about their failure to impose a points and/or driving eligibility penality to their drivers.

Or McLaren did not use the data and information, which makes the punishment a gross travesty of justice which McLaren must take to a higher Court, possibly a civil action against the FIA.

Either way, the judgement and competency of the FIA is looking really, really bad with this one.

Dr_Brooks2001 says:

"Surely it would be fair to suggest that Ferrari should incur some penalty for not controlling Nigel Stepney. It seems McLaren have been penalised for not controlling Mike Coughlin? any Thoughts?"

There is a very simple answer:

Ferrari informed FIA about Stepney.
McLaren didn't inform FIA about Coughlan and they got caught!

Contact FIA = good boy smiley
Don't contact FIA = bad boy sadface

Then you wonder why Max was a bit biased?

Perhaps the Ferrari-knockers would do well to read this little lot. Seems not only MS shunted people off the track.

This particular "nice" man is clearly not so nice on occasion.

And concensus is that Alonso did try to knock LH off.

Keeping it "all in the family..."

I believe even non-German readers will get the gist of this article.

zanyzannad,

Yea. Can Stepney report on Ferrari to FIA when you know and the whole world now knows the close relationship between Max FIA & Ferrari & Jean Todt's WMSC. Do you expect him to be that silly to do that? Do you expect him to be at FIA and say,"hey, max! Your friend at ferrari has commit......".

He'll be long gone before he end his sentence!

Come on!

Because Stepney involve Maclaren to report on Ferrari and we now know what happen this season!

ha!Ha!

"Is it trying to say Mika did things wrong aswell when he was in the car?"

Nope. What it is saying - and in very contemptuous tones, while giving examples of Alonso's behaviour as prededent - is that in the recent DTM race which was won by Mika and his team mate, BOTH of them deliberately knocked their rivals off the track.

The article describes their win as "tainted", but in very harsh tones.

The Germans tend to say Mercedes, instead of McLaren, when they talk about the team in general. McLaren are not in the DTM, or course; but as one can see by Mika's frequent appearances with the team, it's not exactly a "separation" as such.

Sidney...you got that wrong.

I don't hate RD nor McLaren.
What I don't like is people blinding themselves...above all, I don't like people like Benson, writing such biased articles.

btw: I have a laugh when I see Ronnie...
