Republic beaten by Czechs

International Republic of Ireland
comment on the article

The Republic of Ireland's chances of qualifying of Euro 2008 look to be over after they lost against the Czech Republic despite a battling display.

Marek Jankulovski fired the dominant Czechs ahead in the 15th minute.

Stephen Hunt's introduction rallied the Irish and Kevin Doyle struck the Czech woodwork before half-time.

Hunt's harsh sending off was a huge blow for the Irish although Paul McShane went close and Radoslav Kovac was inches away from a late own goal.

What are your views on the Republic's display?

Should Stephen Hunt have started Wednesday's game?

What are your views on Hunt's sending off?

Is Steve Staunton the man to lead the Republic of Ireland to the 2010 World Cup Finals?

Give us your thoughts....

i'm glad we were beaten lastnight because i'm sick of that redneck being incharge. the biggest fools are the replica shirt wearing irish fans who support this laughable setup. do these idiots not realise if they don't support staunton and throw their cash at the fai then he would get the sack. sadly most irish fans are clueless aswell.

Mathematical elimination will happen if either Czech Rep win or Ireland lose!

Stan should go. I won 400 quit with him becoming Manager and with having a good idea who the net one could be, I am looking forward to place my bet. Stan has nothing to offer to the Irish team, a loyal servant in the wrong position.

Staunton is another example of an ex player being appointed because of his playing career.
It happens all over the world. Sometimes it pays off but mainly they fail.
Jack Charlton was an example of an average player, doing a good job with good players around him, and was a good manager.
His brother Bobby was a much more tallented player, but failed at managemnt.
Ireland should go for an experienced manager, needn't be high profile.

I think Paul Jewell could be a good good candidate for the job.

Staunton is thick we all are aware of that.

If Wales beat us, and lets face it they are at least givin' it everything, then we mightn't even get 3rd place. Can't we at least replace
senile Bobby with Kenny Dalglish to at least have a chance of the remaining 9 points. Sacking Stan is a bad idea, but only because there is no-one else decent that we can get.

Our boys better be fired up against the Germans or the future is bleak. We MUST make the world cup because Dunne, Keane and Duff will be 30 and it will be their last chance. Can the FAI not see what they have done to the good young players and loyal fans by appointing this boyscout as manager in the first place. I for one feel completely sh*fted - he picks the wrong players (no Hunt), he brings on rubbish players at crucial moments (Douglas against the Slovaks) has favourites, doesn't even include consistent performers in his squad (McPhail), he has made us a joke...
