Why England won't win the Twenty/20 Cup

Twenty20 England

comment on the article

A couple of weeks ago I said that I would write an article about England's squad for the world twenty/20 and since England are playing tomorrow I think it is a good time to. First of all I would like to say that I know that there will be many complaints about this article, and I can accept that, infact I beleive that around 95% of you will disagree with my article. Also I am writing a big article like this because unfortunately I will miss a lot of the t/20 cup because I am going on holiday tomorrow and I will only get back in time for the semi finals.

There is only one problem I have with England but it is a huge one, the squad, it is completely wrong!

This ridiculous idea of bringing in "twenty 20 specialists" is simply insane, these are players who have not played international cricket for a long time, they have never faced top batting and bowling line ups before. The reason they are picked is because they are good at twenty/20 on county level, we have never seen England play loads of twenty/20 how can you compare international players with county players when we have never really seen Englands players in twenty/20. England ODI players are capable of batting like twenty/20 players just because we haven't seen it in ODI doesn't mean they cant! when the likes of Maddy, Snape and Solanki play one day cricket they don't play in twenty/20 style, where is the comparison with England?

Another huge problem which I can guarantee will happen is that because the "specialists" idea came around was mainly because of the view of the public and some members of the media, so if someone like Maddy scored a hundred the anoying members of the public who have the cheek to call themselves fans will start putting pressure on Moores to put Maddy in the ODI team, I know your probabily saying "rubbish" but beleive me they will, these people are more like bad critics than fans. England's ODI team is the best for the twenty/20.

Also I am sure that out of James Kirtley, Darren Maddy, Chris Schofield and Jeremy Snape that there will be very few great performances between them.

I realise that many of you will seriously disagree with this article and think that I am way wrong and maybe I am wrong but this has been my view of the squad since it was announced.

Pakistan are THE team to be motivated enough to want to beat India comprehensively and put them out of the competition.

The point that the writer of this article makes about the squad is basicaly that England should stick with the team that took part in the ODI series against India.
I for one have no real issues with this opinion but feel a need to point out that our New-Ball bowlers had serious problems today against Zimbabwe, but being that it was only Zimbabwe were able to be rescued by our slower bowlers.
24hrs later, England face the wounded & cornered Beast that is Austrailia, and if Stu & Jimmy encounter the same problems then England could find themselves getting the type of hammering that wipes out their superior net run rate and puts them on the Plane home?!?!?

Could Kirtley do a job for England tomorrow??

the soreboard says to me..Eng eased passed Zim. no surprise here. but was it realy expected of Zim passing England? if Eng can beat Aus, and I see no problem here...now that would be throwing the cat amongst the pigions smiley and hey why not!!?? I realy think England is capable of it...they trashed India at Lords and looked to me like a million dollar baby.smiley

Englands ODI team is fine for the twenty20 WC? HHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAHA!
What has the writer of this article been sniffing?
So we want the same ODI team that went 3-1 up only to nearly throw it away.
Personally, Bell and Cook needed rests plus they havent played much 20/20 for their counties.
Plus having 20/20 players means the squad has a great level of county and international knowledge of the game.
Without Maddy or the 20/20 'specialists' we would have done an Australia today against Zimbabwe.
(Do the ICC like pairing us up with the Australians in evert tournament!)

Though I myself have reservations whether the 20/20 specialists will perform, I think it is good for Peter Moores to send a message to English county players that if they perform well, they have a chance of playing international cricket.
Surely professionals in whatever sport deserve the opportunity to be considered for their country.

Australia picked their ODI team - the best in the world at that, and lost to Zimbabwe, it's got to be worth a try
