I bet everyone would be slagging off Heskey if he hadn't had such a good first half. What are all the people who said Heskey should never have been picked before the game saying now?

Well done to Heskey for (so far) proving everyone wrong

I thought it was an impressive team performance, with good communication and understanding throughout, with all the midfielders covering for defenders when needed, and barry and J.Cole interchanging positions towards the end. The team seemed to click and because of this there wasnt a big stand out player, although SWP and Barry were probably most impressive.

Honestly i dont see what everyone else is seeing in heskey what did he actually do in that game. I didnt see him set up any goals, i didnt see him score any goals, all i really saw was him hit one over the bar. Same old heskey.

I agree with AVFC_Nick, don't see what all the hype about Heskey is about as usual he missed two great chances. SWP was superb especially in first half. Robinson not proven anyone could have played in goal in that game as the Israelis provided no attacking opposition except in the last quarter.

i dont know if anyone has said this already, but the key to yesterdays result and performance, was that the starting 11, apart from owen and j cole, are players who are playing regular and in form for their clubs.

in recent years England teams haven't been picked in this way, but by how big of a name the player is.

why should mclaren change a winning team? England were creative with that team so should stick with it.

heskey was cack, he had the ball four times in the area, and four times he lost control, or duffed it. His one good touch was his chested ball, which gerrard wasnt going to reach anyway.

Maclaren shouldnt have forced gerrard to play, our third team should be able to beat israel, and why not bring in players who are on the fringes of the england team and begging for a chance to cement their place. the three best players on the pitch were the players desparate to prove their worth, micah richards, SWP and gareth barry all of them have rivals for their position, and knowing maclaren neville and beckham will go straight back in the team, and barry be sent home to villa and swapped with jenas

i have to say that was the best english performance for sometime. heskey played well up front, SWP and joe cole played well on the wings, owen scored an amazing goal and barry played well in midfield, overall brill performance form england, lets hope they can can repeat this on wednesday

o yeah england won again without lampard and the team played well. gives me the impression that when lampard and gerrard dont play together (when lampard dosent play) england have a better chance of winning!

One of the best England TEAM performances in a long while. Unfortunately, SWP, Barry and Heskey will all lose a starting place on the return of Beckham/Lennon, Hargreaves/Carrick/Lumpard and Crouch/Rooney. Seems to be a familiar story. I hope that we do go on and qualify regardless of who plays, as that is the objective. However, a part of me hopes that McClown changes the side to the regulars and the performance reverts back to the usual dull, boring, predictable stuff England fans a re becoming used to. A shake up in the centre of defence would be more than welcome mind!!!!
