Taylor's New Deal?

Newcastle United
comment on the article

Anybody had a ganders at the Ronny Hill today? Alan Oliver reckons Taylor has turned down a new 5 year deal...

..."Taylor’s dad Alf, who is looking after his son’s affairs these days, told me today: “I only hope they are not trying to force Steven out.

“He loves Newcastle United and it is the only club he wants to play for, but he is most disappointed at what they are offering him"

What do we make of this then?

All these postings are crap.

You all keep on about paying Taylor what he deserves.
So, what does he deserve?
Do any of you idiots know what he's been offered?
Only when you know what he's been offered, and turned down, will you be able to make a sensible assessment.

You Newcastle fans are all the same, criticise the club without knowing the facts.

So, go on, someone tell me what he's refused, then we can see if he's been hard done by.
Until then, go back to bed.

I heard that Taylor was after a move to Liverpool.
Can't see fat Sam wanting him out. Although i could see Ashley milking the club for all he can then selling.
I really do think its time for a wage cap. You wouldn't have players demanding more money. They would be paid x amount at every age. Extra for established internationals etc etc.

I think it'll be resolved. We'll come in with an improved offer. It happens with every player negotiating a new deal with their club...

Handbags at fifty paces which will be resolved if both parties want it to be by this time next year. I want £10....I'm only going to give you £5 .....ok lets agree on £7.50....done. In Taylors position however I would hang on for another year. He and not the Club is in the driving seat. 2 years until he becomes a free agent and pockets [if he maintains his form and progression] at least 5 million as a signing on fee.....tempting is'nt it ?

Well, I still don't know what the fuss is about because I still don't know what Taylor has been offered.
I think he's a good player with potential.
So, if he was being offered, say, £20k a week, my sympathy would be with him.
However, if he wanted, say, £150k a week, my sympathy would be with Newcastle.
So, unless anyone knows what he's actually been offered, I don't see how you can comment on this situation.
Earlier, someone said he should be offered what he deserves.
What does he deserve?

So, my question again is ...... what has he been offered that seems to be so derisory, at least to Taylor and his father.

Steven Taylor Sureley Deserves More than £10,000 a week, it doesnt make sense that he is payed the least in the team! He's a really good player of ours so newcastle better make there minds up!

Liverpool reportedly want him for £5m and i suppose the wage shal be bigger there too so...

Taylor is currently on £10k per week and has not been offered a great deal more than that in his new contract. He has seen the wages some of the squad are getting and is obviously aware that the likes of Faye etc. have come in on £30k+ per week. He is simply looking for parity with other first team players, which is not unreasonable.
He is a mainstay of the team, is one of the best defenders in England and has, with any luck, about 12-14 years at the highest level to look forward to.
Surely at 21 he, like Milner and Z'Zogbia, is our future? They could walk into any Premiership first team and if we're not careful, they will.
Whilst Big Sam is good at making good value signings of players around the 29-32 mark, he must not lose the younger elements of the squad.

No one's saying it's unreasonable for Taylor to want a better salary. It's not even unreasonable for him to turn down the club's first contract offer.
But what is unreasonable is for his dad to publicly embarrass the club and make a big deal of this. Especially that ridiculous quote about it being a short career. Taylor will earn more money in 5 years than the vast majority of season ticket holders will earn in a lifetime. The boy's been a first-team player for ONE season and yet he's acting like he's Ronaldinho. If i was Allardyce, i'd be seriously tempted to make an example of him and sell him to someone like West Ham.

Okay I have been reading this thread with interest. My final thought on it is....
Taylor has looked good in a less than average team, I think we should judge him in what seems to me to be an evolving and better spirited team. From a defender's point of view he has the best manager he has had. I reckon Sam will be thinking when Taylor looks like he is not staying he will ship him out quickly. Seems the managers priority is team moral,
But is this all just a media stunt to bolster a wage demand?

Have the board got a very short memory!
Bramble, Boumsong, Peacock, Dabizas Marcelinho,O'Brien Chavert..... do I need to go on. Woodgate aside it's decades since we have had a centre half of this quality. We should, to a degree, let Taylor name his price as he is the sort of player the club needs to build around. Get the cheque book out quickly!
