Just how similar him and Tim Henmans careers have been??
Both have won a similar amount of titles. Both been Slam semi finalists. Both been consistent top 10'rs. Both have played lots of cliff hanging 5 setters. Both have had shoulder problems. Both have had great wins over higher ranked or seeded players. Both have supreme mental strength and both have suffered disappointing defeats. And both have lost matches they should have won.
The only differnces I can see is that they have different tempraments and Haas is slightly younger with less Grand Slam success.
I do however remember a memorable final in which Henman beat Haas in 3 straight sets. One of his better wins.
However Haas has a winning record over Henman 3 -2
Haas could probably have another good 3 years left in him. Just wanted to say I really wanted Tommy to reach the semi final or final. That would have been great. Hard luck. Hopefully next year

Tommy, I am not comparing to anyone. But yesterday's match was superb. Classic Tommy! Davydenko will be his next victim.

Interesting article Wingfields, i was thinking about Tim and also Tommy, but i actually was thinking how Henman has achieved more then many of the current top set of tennis players and in my opinion was a better player in his peak, e.g. better then Robredo, Blake, Davydenko, Gonzalez (despite him getting to the OZ final, he aint consistent), this isnt a comparison between eras it was just a comparison between Henman and many current top players including Haas, i just think Henman was more consistent in his career although he didnt reach the dizzy heights of number 2 in the world

Well yes you are right and I think the one thing that stnds out the most in Henmans career apart from his 6 G.S semi finaks is his consistency.
Semms to be lacking somewhat in players today other than Nadal and Federer.
Did you know that in the 90's Henman was the most consistent performer in Mens Tennis aprt from Sampras and Agassi . Only those two were above Henman. Also in 2006 Tim Henman ended the year inside the top 40 for the 11th consecutive year. The best record of all the currently active players.

Henman was not most consistent apart from Pete and Andre in 90s. You are forgetting players like
Ivanesevic, Kafelnikov, Becker, Chang, Martin etc
Just find all the slam winners/finalists other than Pete and Andre.

Yes, I have heard the stat about Henman before - I think its to do with number of weeks inside the top 10/20 rather than performances in the GS?

However, I actually think that one of the main problems with Henman (outside of wimbledon)was his consistency at GS. Apart from 2004, his performances outside of Wimbledon were disappointing for a player of his level. This was usually because he would play one bad match in the 3rd or 4th round and as such suffered defeats to the likes of Clement, Golmard etc.

I'm a big Henman fan btw. He was right at the top of the game for a number of years.

I really hope Haas can win this match. He deserves a little something to go his way.

How much would a tenner get you on his odds to win the US Open ??? winkeye

Wow??
Well Federer is the ultimate Favourite and has been from day one. He completely crushed Roddick again last night in 3.
Davydenko is the man of the moment. He is very, very good right now. Hasn't dropped a set yet

With all due respect I don't see much in common between the two of them. Henman was ranked in the top 15 for seven consecutive years, most of them top 10. Haas' path has been devastated by injuries, it's true but his achievements pale by comparison: yes he was world number two on the computer for a few weeks in 2002 but even that year he started the year eighth and ended
it eleventh. The rest of his career he's yoyo-ed up and down the top 40. Unlucky for sure, but clearly an inferior record to Tim's.

Thats ok.
I thought their talent wa about the same and number of titles and consistency in tournaments etc. and both had shoulder surgery etc. Quite a comparable career. I agree Henman had more success in Grand Slams . Yes his record is less than Tims but I wonder if at age 30 he may have another good 2 years were he can really make an impact. He is playing great Tennis at the moment
