And that wraps up the Worlds.

International athletics
comment on the article

That is it folks, the World Championships in Osaka have drawn to a close.

Britain claimed a fifth and final medal after a gutsy performance in the women's 4x400m relay, which owes a lot to the determination of Nicola Sanders on the anchor.

The British medal tally of five was higher than expected but should we have expected more - and if so where is the extra silverware likely to come from?

Paula Radcliffe (marathon), Becky Lyne (800m) and Greg Rutherford (long jump) will be expected to return after injury ended their hopes this summer.

But the trend of under-performance continues elsewhere, particularly in the field events.

Away from a British point of view, the Worlds also showcased some of the very best talent out there.

Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele dug deep for their 10,000m victories as did human machine Roman Sebrle in the decathlon.

Double 400m champion Jeremy Wariner remained peerless while Tyson Gay can be proud of his three golds.

BBC commentator Steve Cram gave the championships themselves 8/10 in terms of action on the track but only 5/10 in terms of atmosphere in and outside the Nagai stadium.

What did you make of the championships as a whole?

Your thoughts on the Worlds.

Erm back to The Worlds as a whole.
I enjoyed all the events, despite the fact conditions were less favourable to some.I doubt very much if Beijing will be any different.
From a British aspect, much better, and clearly there is scope to improve on those performances next year.Plus Simeon Williamson , maybe some juniors might make a breakthrough along with the enhancement of talented athletes missing for one reason or another, should strengthen the team.
The highlight obviously was Christine and Nicola.Hats off to Kelly also.
From the worlds Roman Serble and Carolina Kluft were amazing, the javelin , triple jump and long jump nailbiting and the distance events exhausting..Jo Pavey ...you little star.
There was such alot to admire, I really hope this championships is not tainted by another drugs scandal.

no one is proud to be british than me but we are undepeforming (especially the mens team) and we need to admit not hide behind stats like some new labour spin doctor and kididng everyone on how well we are doing

Some can 't help moaning like desperate old ladies it seems... Or simply picking other aliases to post their same misery... Well-known policy of a certain forum where three people share some 40 different names to circulate their misery and make it look that there are more with a share in it...
But who cares anyway! Let 's enjoy our sport and leave them to sour grapes!

JBOB

Team GB were a credit to the nation.

Funding cycling and rowing allows them to have hte best bikes available, a tangible advantage over most competing nations. Funding athletics can only allow atheltes to train as hard as they can, which any other athlete can also do.

Yes I will mention the number of countries, it's relevant only an idiot woudl think that a narrow sport like cycling and a wide one like athletics are dirtectly comparable.

Funding is not the be all and end all. you nend the talent, and you need the talent to be in your sport. I don't see many Kenyan multi-millionaiure footballers, how about you?

IF they are not talented enough as you suggest then why waste money on people who will never get us a medal?

pbs and finishing 14th are no use to anyone

maybe the kenyans etc just want a bit more than over paid prima donnas

coe ovett christie thompson etc all won gols without lottery funding but with genuinue hunger and ambition something our male stars lack in abundance. how many medals did our men with in track and field?

ps you may not se emany kenyan millionaire players but there are plenty of ivory coast, nigerian, cameroon and other african mult millionaire footballers
maybe you should look at them and please dont sya our tennis stars do ok henman and murray aside we have been dire for over 20 years and with the money that gets pumped into tennis that is pathetic

when gb do well eg cycling rowing boxing ill be the 1st to praise them but our athletics team did poorly and we should deny it

Absolute drivel from the person who suggested we would come away with ten medals and three golds from this years WCs.
