Great Britain completed a 4-1 win over a depleted Croatian team at Wimbledon to enter the 2008 World Group.
Andy Murray and Tim Henman won both singles matches on Day 1 to put GB in a commanding position. Murray sealed a good, hard-fought victory over Marin Cilic in 5 sets. Andy has now won 3 of his last 4 five-set matches. Cilic was in good form, having reached the quarterfinals of Beijing, beating Davydenko, as well as the quarters of Queen's. Croatian No. 1 Ivan Ljubicic had to withdraw and was replaced by Karanusic. It follows the withdrawal of Karlovic (due to federation dispute) and Ancic (injured serving arm). Henman beat Karanusic in straight sets in what could be his final singles competitive match.
Britain won the doubles rubber on Saturday and with that claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead to clinch a place in the World Group. Jamie Murray, who had won the Mixed Doubles in Wimbledon this summer, teamed up with Tim Henman playing in his final competitive career match. They beat Zovko and Cilic in four sets though it was not without some trouble, particularly on the Jamie serve early on, but after winning the tiebreak in the third set they had all the momentum behind them to take them through.
With victory already assured for GB just two dead rubbers remained. Andy Murray overcame Roko Karanusic in straight sets, while Jamie Baker failed to complete a whitewash as he was beaten by Cilic in straight sets.
