England - India

Date:
30 August 2007
Venue:
Old Trafford
Competition:
One-day internationals
Player of the match:
Stuart Broad
comment on the article

Stuart Broad emerged as England's hero in a thrilling one-day international victory over India at Old Trafford.

The tall paceman took 4-51 to help reduce the tourists to 212 all out.

And then he came in to bat with England struggling on 114-7, but put on a 99-run partnership with Ravi Bopara to clinch the win and put the hosts 3-1 up in the best of seven series.

What's your thoughts on the performance? England looked dead and buried when Collingwood was run out on 47, but a remarkable fightback from Broad and Bopara turned the game around.

Will India bounce back in the fifth game?

It was good game to watch. Both team struggled to score.
England, well done........will win this ODI Series.
India needs to work on all areas, specially in bowling & fielding to win any games like this.
India gave 19 extras……but England gave only 13 extra runs.
In all 3 games India gave more extra runs than England.

I think India should know, team selected for the ODI series was incorrect. But having said that, this team is still causing problems, England were expected to beat Indians easily.

If selected...

Raina/Pathan/Harbhajan Singh/V.Sehwag/Kaif, would have caused England problems. Fielding/All Rounder/Batting down the order would have been solved.

I thought Broad and Bopara were superb - Grace Under Pressure indeed.

Ok - so we nearly bottled it chasing a lowish total - but so do most teams (Australia apart) - it's just like a 150 total in a Test Match...often harder than 250.

I agree ..... I would say tho that most teams should include Australia ....they too struggle at times to chase down a low total ... In both ODIs & Tests

Well played England! This is the grit India lacks. Stuart Broad and Ravi Bopara played like true champs. There was nothing Dravid could have done to this pair. To build a 99 run partnership at wicket number 8 takes some cricketing. As an Indian supporter I congratulate England for that delightful cricket they played.

I hope you remain one even on the days Eng loses smiley

Looks like series is for Eng to take, but I really hope India show some fight and make it as difficult as possible

Wait, if England loses the next match, the blame will be on the TOSS.

When England wins, it is because they played well. When they lose, it is always because of factors beyond control, most often the blame is on the toss.

I do too. Dravid should take the blame for losing the toss and thereby causing England to lose.
