Mens 200 metres final

Promises to be a cracker! Another Jamaica vs America showdown. Three Jamaicans and three Americans will be taking part, as well as one Greek, and an athlete from the Netherland Antilles.

In the first Jamaica-USA clash, Tyson Gay upset Asafa Powell. In the second round, Veronice Campbell pipped Lauryn Williams and Torri Edwards.

Now it is Usain Bolt, Marvin Anderson and Chris Williams leading the charge for the Caribbean country against the might of Gay, Wallace Spearmon and Rodney Martin. Who will come out on top?

Bolt is finally fulfilling his promise as a junior not so long ago. He has really looked good in the early rounds. But Gay is confident after his victory in the 100, and SPearmon is no slouch. Can the veteran Williams get among the medals?

I pick Bolt to take it, and begin a glitering career....

How do you see it?

Mike Rimmer employs some brilliant tactics to go through convincingly, if only he had Baddeley 's lethal finish!

--------------------------------------------

Why bang on about his lethal finish. At world level he's never within 20 yards of the front in order to use it. In the 1500m final , his lethal finish made very little impact imo. Didn't appear to be streets ahead of the rest in terms of raw pace over the last 100m. Another overrated middle distance hope. Will never win much.

Well that was because the pace that the rest set burned the finish out of him.

In his case he has to learn to find more speed endurance so that his sprint finish can get him up there - whether he can do that or not is another matter. In Rimmer's (and Pavey's) case it's about them finding the wherewithal to do to the others what is presently being done to Baddeley. Not so sure they can do that either!

I am very happy with Bolt's performance. He is only 21 and improving in every competition. I expect him to win the gold medal in the upcoming olympics.
As for Asafa Powell, he has spoken like a man by admitting that he panicked in his race with Gay, which is the first step to righting the problem. I am confident he will come good in the Olympics as well after getting some help with the mental part of his race and he is still the fastest man in the world.
All in all, this is turning out to be a very good competition for the Jamaicans. I can't help but marvel of the performance of this small country which has approximately 2.6 million citizens yet we continue to give 'big' America a run for their money in every athletic competition. WEll done Jamaica, Irie and one love every time!

What are they talking about? Michael Johnson did it in 19.32 which is well below Gay's time. Am I missing something?

It is the championship record and Johnson's 19.32 is the Olympic record.

Great time. But didnt we say that about a certain 100/200 meter runner a year or so back.Is Gay another Gatlin? God I hope not!I dont think US athletics will survive that. Im still a huge fan of MJs man in the flat 400 though.

I'm only a casual sprinting fan - I love the big events and always tune in, but I'm not a hardcore follower... however it seems to me the majority of athletes have a 1/2 season shelf like max at the top!

Where have the likes of Kim Collins
Francis Obikwelu
Michael Frater
Maurice Greene
Bernard Williams
Shawn Crawford
Darrel Brown got to?

This guy Bolt is destin for greatness. I can't believe he just turned 21. Gay is the man right now,but I believe Bolt will overhaul him pretty soon, maybe by Beijing. WOW!

One gold, one silver, and three bronze medals....

A very good competition! And the relays are still to come.
