Just the name Bordeaux is enough to explain what draws people from across the world to the port on the south west coast of France, but this autumn the Rugby World Cup will add to those numbers.

Ireland fans in particular are likely to set up temporary home there as their team is involved in two of the city's four World Cup matches.

With its world renowned wine, and parts of the city on the UNESCO world heritage list, Bordeaux has many obvious attractions - but we want to hear your recommendations.

Have you already made your travel plans? What have you learnt about the place and what are your expectations? Maybe you know Bordeaux from previous visits - if so, where would you recommend to visiting rugby fans as good places to stay, eat and drink? Where is the best place for post-match debate? And what are the other activities that Bordeaux has to offer its visitors?

Please post your suggestions, hints and recommendations here.

Used to live in Bordeaux.
Best pub for Rugby/footie is the 'Connemara'
Big screen, good ambiance, and Guinness!
Other good pub in Bordeaux is 'Cafe Brun' on Rue St Remi.(best french pub ive been to in France.) Friendly irish barmaid.

I was there for the Namibia game and the "Connemara" is definitely the place to be for an Irish fan.

There is also a small Piazza across the road with an Official Guinness Bus and TV set-up to enjoy the other games in the sun.

p.s. be warned that they only serve non-alcoholic beer at the stadium!

It won't be open on matchday but if you're after a fantastic lunch for under 20 euros go to a restaurant just past the barracks called 'Xantrailles'(named after the barracks) it's 5mins walk from the stadium and well worth it.
I agree about the Connemara- it rocks!
