The Enigma of Welsh Coaching decisions

Can anyone rationally explain the sense behind GJ's gameplan yesterday?

Even more worrying is the fact that Alfie 'Ruddock Slayer' Thomas was finally stretchered off, after leaving the pitch twice during the game, with supposedly 'minor' head injuries which left him with blurred vision... I don't know what Prof Williams the team doc was thinking when he heard that little pearler (I am a Dr btw and alarm bells should have been ringing) but he clearly didn't have enough influence to stop Alfonso from returning to the game when the potential implications could be(and could yet still be)huge. Only time will tell but I do not believe it was merely 'exhaustion' as GJ says in his profoundly moronic way.

To be honest I think the whole of the medical staff were asleep during the game as Kevin Morgan was yelling for at least 5mins to come off with his knee injury...or was this another 'game plan' of GJ?

Is it a case of poor medical decisions pitchside or GJ's overwhelming schoolteacher ego that prevents any crucial game saving decisions being made after the whistle has gone for kick off? Is he really THAT one dimensional?

There is one possible advantage to Alfie being out and that is to force the hand of GJ to bring in Gavin Henson who at least is a natural centre and IS FIT. Sonny Parker and Robinson don't shine at all in my eyes and along with Michael Owen don't deserve their squad places. As for the Stephen Jones question, by all means keep him in the squad but he aint first choice at 10 as that is Hooks position now.

After yesterdays performance I think we will struggle to come out of the group stages unless some serious miracle happens.

My cyptic message to you was that you cannot draw a comparison between England and Wales.

Comparing England and France is fair because the playing field is level. And we all know the outcome of that comparison.

Truly, we have no World Cup pedigree, which is sad to say. Realisticly, Wales will probably never win the World Cup because they simply have no resources (financially speaking or player-wise) to compete with SH nations and England/France.

England on the other hand, have a good pedigree in RWC's and are nearly always mentioned as possible winners. Why is it different this time? Because you've been in a mess for the last 4 years.

P.S. The game has changed, you've gotta score tries to win the big games these days. I'd be worried that you didn't score at least a consolation against the French, just to give you believe if nothing else...

<<Hmmm, I wonder what you English guys would be saying if you hadn't won the World Cup in 2003? Perhaps the 6 Nations wouldn't be as insignificant as you believe it is, huh?>>

Didn't say it was insignificant, just doesn't have the kudos you get with the WC when you compete against the regular best in the world - NZ, SA and Aus. The 6N is valuable and important in it's own right to the NH teams in the same way that the 3N is important to them down under. WC is where the big boys aim for now, and rightly so, and the 6N is used to blood yer players and get them gelling for the WC (or that's the theory) in the year or 2 before the WC. If you don't have a good enough team to progress in the WC, then yes maybe the 6N will be more of a target, nad fair enough. That's not to undermine other countries, just the way it is. Long may it ALL continue.

you seriously think Wales will struggle to get out of a group with Japan, Canada and Fiji and a weaker than usual Australia? Dream on. We might not be very good and we might not win the group (although Australia probably won't fancy the game in Cardiff which will decide the group) but with 2 going through? Fiji, Canada and Japan can't even beat our 3rd team.

"I'd just like to point out that it was France' first warm up game against England at Twickers. England had already played as a team v Wales."

You're wrong, England didn't have to play to beat that pathetic Welsh outfit, our first game was against France in Twickenham, with Ashton openly admitting the so called 'match' against Wales had taught him nothing about his team. Effectively, it was England's first game too.

I beg to differ that Wales would have beaten England at Twickenham in their third match and with Jenkins at the helm, you'll be lucky to make it through the Group stages in France.

Yeah, Samoa nearly turned us over in '03. Enland, we better have our game-face on for that one or we could be embarrassed. Not that I'd be that bothered, I'm English but Samoa are my 2nd team! ale
