why is he already being linked with moves to middlesboro and derby when he has only just joined pompey like a month ago??? i thought you could only transfer between clubs once in a season??? or does this not apply to him cos he signed in july?.

David Nugent at £6m for long term investment is about what you have to pay for any English talent nowadays. However if its a choice between waiting till he's developed or offloading nugent and getting a proven goalscorer who in a side set up like Pompey he will score a hatful of goals...

PS: Lets put it this way, the moment Pompey buy Anelka, I will be down the bookies looking at the odds of Pompey finishing above Arsenal this year.

PPS: Thats a hint Mr Wenger, buy Anelka and a decent centre back...

"How on Earth is it unfair on Nugent? Harry Redknapp's not taking him out and shooting him he's allowing him the chance to move to another Premiership club where he will be playing a lot more."

What would be more unfair is to let him stagnate in the reserves for the season when he needs to be playing to be considered for (scoff) England.

And how exactly can you be so sure that he will get first team opportunities elswhere than at Portsmouth? You never know, he could play alot of games for Pompey and less games somewhere else!

And please.....don't bring England into this.

The issue is ...... why did Redknapp sign him in the first place?
Didn't he know what he's like? Or did he sign him on a whim because he was available?

All this rubbish about giving Nugent a chance to play regularly elsewhere is just that ....... rubbish.

Redknapp has dropped a clanger, or, more to the point, he's being devious.

woah, the first few days after i created this article there was only 3 comments, now after today theres 102 including this, i didnt think this would cause such debate but seeing as i created it i feel i need to respond to what i think is going on...

i think that it is totally unfair on nugent, he's only young and has not been giving a chance, although, i do understand why he has not been giving a chance as pompeys other strikers have been in great form, i feel nugent should be given til at least january, as for needin the funds to sign anelka, why would anelka sign for pompey when he wants champions league football???, i really do not understand why nugent was signed if he is just going to be sold, the guys had what, a month to try and settle and now hes being shipped out again straight away

Some people must be right mugs if they think we're going to sell Nugent without having a deal lined up to replace him. We won't sell Nuge and then find out Anelka's a no go; this isn't Milan Mandaric's mom 'n' pop shop anymore. IF we can find a top-class centre forward Nugent is free to leave but until then he's a Pompey player.

WELL I SEE ITS NOT RITE TO BY A PLAYER AND OFFLOAD HIM IN 3MONTHS BUT IF HE STAYS AT POMPEY HE WONT PLAY REGULAR FOOTBALL EXCEPT KANU ,UTAKA AND BENJANI ARE INJURED HE CANT MATCH UP WITH THE AFRICANS L.O.L SELL HIM DERBY SO THEY CAN GO DOWN TOGETHER L.O.L AND POMPEY DONT NEED ANELKA THEY NEED A DEFENDER I SUGGEST TAYE TAIWO FROM MARSELLE

this is just stupid if portsmouth let david nugent. they only got him 2 months ag for 6 million and now they want so sell him yikes hes only had 3 apperances and scored one goal. but harry should remember he hasnt played at this level yet so should be given time to addapt to it. anyway if he was to be sold now it woud only be for like 4 million and that just crazy. seems harry whodiney aint so magic now is he magic

I don't know what he's up to! He's given Benjani loads of time. I thought it was just paper talk, but then I've seen a direct quote from Harry (yup, in a paper...i know), saying what I'm sure has been laid out in above posts.

Harry is renowned for being astute in the transfer market, but also for the occasional howler. I didn't think Nugent himself was a howler, but this whole protracted affair is.
