NI stay on course for Euro 2008

Northern Ireland
comment on the article

Northern Ireland moved into second place in their Euro 2008 group by claiming a comfortable 3-1 win over Liechtenstein at Windsor Park on Wednesday.

David Healy hit two first-half goals for Nigel Worthington's side and Kyle Lafferty added the third after the interval.

What is your reaction to Northern Ireland's display?

Are Northern Ireland going to qualify for the finals?

Northern Ireland's run has been fantastic so far and I really hope they make it to EURO2008. But in a way their run reminds me of Wales' narrow miss at qualification for EURO2004. Wales were in a great position but lost 3 of their last 4 games, meaning a play off and eventual elimination. I hope NI win the next two against Latvia and Iceland and this puts them in a safe position. Then winning or losing in Spain may not be important. Good luck!!

We've got five games left, if we can take nine points of Lativa, Iceland and Denmark at home then we are there,

Spain at home to Sweden on 17th November is the one to watch, hopefully they will cancel each other out and play out a draw here.

I'm old enough to remember us qualifying for Spain in 1982 and the excitement that came with that. It's been a long wait for us to be this close to qualifying again, but that's what being a footie fan is all about.

Hopefully, we'll all be having a few weeks in spain/Portugal next year!!!

God forbid even if we didn't qualify but finished third, then our rankings would go up again and we would be in a much easier group to qualify for the World Cup, providing that we can carry the momentum through...

It is interesting that Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland all have a realistic chance of qualifying. The Repulic have great form at the moment, and the chances of getting second spot behind Germany in the group are good. Scotland have already beaten France and their qualification could come down to beating Italy at home. And NI look fantastic at the moment. Could we possibly see a tournament with Scotland, NI, Ireland and England?? That would be awesome!!

I'm not sure we'll need to beat Denmark; a draw will probably do, as Spain/Sweden/Denmark will surely take points off each other. Or is that just wishful thinking..? Obviuosly, we'll have to beat Latvia and Iceland, but why not, we've beaten better!

Sweden and Spain in the same group, oh I don't know. I don't think they will but I really hope they prove me wrong. Come on Northern Ireland!

When we got battered to Iceland i thought we had no chance. And even after we went top when we beat Sweden i thought it wasn't going to happen. But even i'm starting to wonder now. 4 points from our next 2 games and i think we could do it.

Everybody knows that its more than just football with Northern Ireland and it would be brilliant for us if we could do it. 22 years has been long enough.

come on northern ireland!!

I agree with ballymenablue I thought it was all over after Iceland but the team has fought back superbly!! They have a real chance to qualifify!!

Uncertain if they will get maximum points in lativa and Iceland, I feel four points is more likely.

I do feel that Denamrk are for the taking at the moment and a win in belfast should get us there!!

Stand up for the Ulster men!!!
