Renault to concentrate on next years car...

Formula One

Renault have announced that as they see little chance in winning a GP this year on pace alone, that they will concentrate their efforts on the 08 car.

2 things occur to me....firstly do Renault not think that all the other teams have got one eye on next year....and secondly....Is this change of stratergy on the behest of someone else, namely Alonso.

If as rumoured Alonsos management team met with Flav at the last GP (entering Bernies black wagon with apparaently Flav already waiting inside!)was any deal made and if so was it conditional on Renault taking the above action ???

"Si I sign....30 million dollars....you work on 08 car now...this is what I want from it...."

Alonso back at Renault?
HAHAHA, yeh right, he chose McLaren to widen his F1 Career, he might have a putty argument with Lewis but that wont force him to grovel back to Flav who has other things to worry about (QPR).
Renault knew it was going to be hard without Alonso and they are right to develop the 08 car.
All they need to do is to get a better Driver than Fisi, they can do better and some drivers are still available.
Hekki will stay as his one for the future.

I would be very surprised to see Webber in a Renault next year seeing as though they have 5 sreat young options in their ranks already:

Heikki Kovalinen(8th in f1, former formula nissan champ, 2nd in gp2 and race of champions winner)

Nelsinho Piquet(current test driver and former 2nd in gp2)

Lucas DiGrassi(2nd in gp2, former 3rd in f3 euroseries and macau gp winner)

Romain Grosjean(current f3 euroseries leader)

and

Ben Hanley(3rd in world series by renault and the real future of british f1)

So they're working on the 08 car, that kind of makes sense. From the current standings, it looks like next year Ferrari and McLaren will be numbers 1 to 4, BMW will have 5 & 6 and Renault will have 7 & 8.

Renault do not have the budget of Mclaren, Ferrari, Toyota, Honda or BMW and they have no chance of the title this year so concentrating on next year is a good move remember 2004 when they were 3rd in constructors and came out of the blocks in 2005 as the front car.

They are good at using the best resources available into the right areas

They have only just discovered the characteristics of the Bridgestones which should put them in good shape for next year definitely closer to BMW than this year

As for drivers Kovalainen is getting better every race so he's definitely staying

Fisi needs to pick up his form since Monaco he's been absent apart from Canada when he got DQed
otherwise I am sure Nelsinho is being pushed for a seat by his playboy dad

Getting Alonso back is a possibility but what if Heiki starts beating him regularly... Is he gonna sulk again

Webber is confirmed at Red Bull unless Flav would be prepared to swap him for Fisi or heiki

"Webber is confirmed at Red Bull unless Flav would be prepared to swap him for Fisi or heiki "

Fisi might be past his peak but I would still chosse him over Webber.

A few years back I would agree but he's getting beat by Kovalainen regularly now and unless he picks his form Flav would waste no time putting in Nelsinho or Webber if he could

I think it would be extremely unwise replacing Fisi at Renault for next year. Having two virtually new drivers (Heikki and Piquet Jnr) wouldn't be very sensible if, as they are saying, they are developing new designs. There is virtually no-one more experienced than Fisi, who is renown for helping construct a car & is very highly regarded by everyone he's driven for. I know his form seems to be tailing off, but if you look at the points table he's still ahead of HK.

I suspect Fisi's just having one of the occasional dips in form which he seems to have now and again.

well he may be ahead of Kovalainen in the standings but that was because HK got robbed of a podium in Nurburgring by the team taking an ambitious gamble that did not work

in the last 8 races I think its 5-1 to Heikki excluding Canada when Fisi got DQed and Heikki hit by Trulli in France at the start

I am a Fisi fan myself and have been since he beat the much hyped Ralf Schumacher in their first season in 97

Sadly I feel his chances of getting a top drive and being a championship contender are gone

He's had his chances.. in some ways his career mirrors Jenson Button's at the moment

Always gets into a team at the wrong time
