What do England have in attack? I just can't see where England are going to score enough points to defend their world cup crown successfully.

The reason the England backs were so rubbish last night was because Wilkinson had his worst game of Rugby ever. Ball in hand he was reminiscant of a crab scuttling sideways in a vague attempt to pierce the line single handedly. This led to the backs becoming cramped and him ending up shipping of a hospital pass to anyone in the vicinity. If you watch the best attacking stand-offs - Carter, Michalak, Spencer - they ship the balls fast allowing the players outwide to have time to attack. This is what England used to do 4-6 years with Wilkinson at the fore. Unfortunately he seems unwilling to us the backs outside him poss unders orders from Ashton.

Still I suppose we can blame Farrell instead. He was very good in defence, offloaded well and on the few occasions he had the chance to pass the ball in space he used it well but rumour has it Guscott was trying to blame him for Vickery getting injured....

after watching the game on sky last night i was appaled at the stick the lads were getting. were never going to improve if everyone is always getting at them. the winning squad of 2003 lost in Marseille to France in a preperation game. its always tough there, especially when your playing against the referee. At least now we have a squad of about 20/22 players who are capable (as shown against Wales), think back to 12 months ago, we didnt hve a clue who was going to be playing where, get behind the lads and give them achance!!

"...its always tough there, especially when your playing against the referee."

I thought the ref had a fairly good game. Consistent and fair - what more can you ask for?
The sinbinning might have been a bit harsh - interested to hear where abouts England were let down by the referee..

I think there seems to be a general lack of intent in this England squad to actually want to have a run or try and create anything. Disappointing. Where to for this team? I think they need to strip away the old has-beens (keep LOL - he's the only quality forward who seems to be actually run and make any yards with the ball in hand), and get some fast recycled ball and let the backs have a crack.

Jolomo, while Farrel was very good in defence, in particular his dump on Harinorduquay, he did look very limited in attack. There were quite a few passes from Wilkinson which would have put him through a hole if he only had a little more gas.

is it just me or are England fast becoming the best "talkers of a good game" in world rugby !!! if the webb ellis trophy were handed out for telling people that you were the best, surely we would beat the AB's hands down....sadly, they do all of their talking on the pitch. this team is just lacking in basic skills (the ability to use an overlap is just one example)

Couldn't agree more about the referee! I watched it in a hotel room in Corsica, French TV, very slightly biased!! commentary, but hey I got to see most of the game. Before the French try, they went over the line but dropped the ball, the referee asked for the video official to give him any reason why the try should not be awarded! Apart from the fact that the ball had been dropped over the line, what about the forwards pass at the 22 which allowed the french the space to attack down the line.
Refereeing is not easy, but at this level, with video replay available, mistakes like that should not happen. It is a good job that the ref is respected in Rugby, as I cannot remember the last time I saw a good solid consistant (same rules applied to both teams) performance by a referee. It spoils the game for everyone bar the referee as he is protected at all costs!!

Who do you reckon will win on Saturday night? I hope England do as it would be a great finale.
