Dire performance?

European Football Blackburn Rovers

No drive or thrust. No desire to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Just XI players wandering around looking disinterested.

Santa Cruz took his goal well But apart from that he looked slow and rather one dimensional. But then again it was a really bad performance played in a disinterested and slow manner. Befitting more of a friendly than getting into the stride of a season.

After we took the lead I was expecting a barrage. Oh how wrong I was. The team look disinterested and clueless to be frank. We carried about as much threat as storming a castle with a feather duster. Three players for me stood out as being the most woeful (in order) Bentley (england quality? diabolical crossing), pedersen (annonymous and more poor corners), and Savage (looked old and slow as the part-timers ran past him with ease)

Can't take any encouragement for the game on Sunday from that shower, but as they say job done if a little tardily.

Agree with Tomb 1984 apart from the Tugay comment - how can you say our Turkish delight is past it?? I'd pay to see him play 60 minutes anywhere. That pitch today was crap. Still, we're 100% and we're in the Premier League. Anyone having a whinge wants to remember a rainy night in Wrexham in 1978...

Think we may be getting carried away a little bit lads. Before the match if somebody had given us an option of a clean sheet and taking the win back to ewood, albeit 1-0, all of us would have taken it.

Not one of us on here kne muchabout MyPa, and potentially it could have been a banana skin. Yes, the performance wasnt ideal and there are severe rooms for improvement, but we went to o a job, and did it.

We seem to forget we are only 2 games into the season, and traditionally Rovers are very slow starters. So 2 wins, 3 goals, 1 conceded is a good start to me.

I'd also like to ask, if we played poorly all season but qualified for the champions league and won a cup, would we be complaining, no!

A completely different Rovers will turn up on Sunday, guaranteed.

I think it a long long long way of any kind of panic stations just yet.

2 goals or more would of finished the tie off, with only 1 goal there is always still a chance of the opposition doing something in the return leg.

With fixture congestion, i would of thought it would be best to kill the tie off in 1 match rather than 2.

Don't get me wrong i'm happy about the result, we played rubbish but got a winning result.

But i don't think this will stand us in good stead for the Arsenal match on Sunday. We will have to up our performance up a lot, sometimes thats tricky to do when you have played so poorly in the previous game.

Yes it would have been nice to score more goals, but based on last night's performance from MyPa, I can't see them causing too many problems at Ewood, so there's still a chance some of the younger lads may get a part to play.
And as Bencoops says, Sunday will be a completely different look Rovers. Just hope its not too different a score winkeye

The game was exactly as I predicted yesterday, I said we'd only take a one or two goal lead back to Ewood... well unfortunately we only got the one, but I think it's enough. MyPa offered no reason for us to worry about the second leg, we were comfortable throughout the match, and I don't even know if it's a criticism to say we didn't up the tempo to thrash them. Why not Cruz through the tie? whistleblush

How can you say Tugay is past it???? He looked good when he came on!! Another creative midfielder would be useful but Tugay still has a lot of ability and to write him off is just stupid.

It was a professional job and we got the result we wanted but it was bloody painful to watch!
The second half especially was crigneworthy at times as the pace was close to a standstill and we really struggled to get a grip of the game which was a bit worrying.
Dunn stood out for me as one of our worst players, this could have been a good workout for the lad and an easy chance to run a game form midfield but he was just non-exsistent and thegame just seemed to drift him by. Tugay saw more of the ball in his first 2 mins than Dunn did in the entire second half.
Elsewhere we looked ok in defense, i agree with the post that wants Emerton back in the starting line, i feel Bentley plays better when he has an attack minded defender behind him and oojer really doesn't offer much going forward.
As Bencoops said, to put it in perspective we'll still unbeaten and have only conceded one goal.
Not a bad start to the season at all!

RoverWay, MyPa may have looked rubbish in terms of an attacking force but the next leg could always be a different game.

All it takes is for example a penalty to be given against us in the second leg for them to get back in the tie. Or a controversial refereeing decision to let them back in the tie.

I just think we should of gone for more goals, that way the tie was secure and we could play a weaker side giving some of the fringe players a chance to play in the second league. This would allow us to rest players for i assume a possible weekend premier fixture 2/3 days later.

RVR - i know a dodgy decision (ref or our defence) could gift them a chance of a goal (or even two), but I can't see Hughes not taking the game seriously.

The younger players i expect to see - or hope - will hopefully be coming on once a professional job has been done in the first hour or so.
