Derby County are chasing Hamburg midfielder Benny Feilhaber, according to the player's agent.

Feilhaber is yet to establish himself with Hamburg after joining the German club two years ago.

The United States international made just nine appearances in the Bundesliga last season and has been linked with a string of clubs on loan.

But reports suggest Premier League new boys Derby are keen on a permanent deal, with a three-year contract in the offing.

Very close

The midfielder's agent Henner Janzen has confirmed Feilhaber is willing to move to Pride Park and hopes a deal can be concluded.

"We are very close," Janzen told the American press.

"The basics have been agreed, and now we get into the details.

"The contract is supposed to be for three years. We hope it's going to work out.

"This would be good for Benny."

this is what i read on sky sports news does anybody know anything about him?

Could be a very promising signing indeed if the report on the BBC is true. We still need more signings, but hopefully with this one, will a deal now be struck with that other America striker we were looking at the other week that Eddie guy? smiley

Eddie Johnson turned down the transfer request... those of us who pay attention in the US were mortified. We think it was a HUGE mistake. He is inconsistent and a little bit of a head case, but he is gifted, which makes it so maddening! My understanding is that he did not want to leave mid-season. In 2005 he also rejected a bid from Benfica. I simply don't understand his logic.

As for Feilhaber - I'm so pleased that he is going to play in England! You've got yourself a fabulous athlete that is humble and likes to work hard. He will do your shirt proud, I guarantee it. I just hope that he is nurtured properly, is given a chance and makes the most of it.

Feilhaber despite his youth will bring a lot of experience picked up in the last 12 months - high level National Team experience at the Gold Cup and Copa America not to mention his experience in the Champions League. He came closee to scoring against Arsenal at Highbury.

Feilhaber scored an incredible goal in the Gold Cup - in fact almost identical to the Messi goal in Cops America which got this review from Argentina coach Alfio Basile:

"As for Messi's goal, only a genius, a superstar could do this. It was an extraordinary feat that moved everybody."

Derby fans will find Feilhaber to be quite a talent. He is an excellent signing.

It's a good signing for Derby. Watching the Gold Cup, he looked like the best of the American players (although it was the American B team). He didn't look lost playing against the quality South American players.

He reminds me of the other American, Claudio Reyna. He can hold the ball, tackle and pass well out of the midfield.

Feilhaber has just begun to emerge as the U.S. team's best controlling midfielder, so Derby is getting him on the cheap. He will take over Reyna's role with the U.S. team, and Derby fans will grow to love him. He's very skilled, and he's tough enough to handle the EPL.
