Have England got it right?

World Twenty20 England
comment on the article
Darren Maddy

England went for a host of tried and trusted domestic performers when they named their 15-man squad for the World Twenty20.

The selections of James Kirtley and Jeremy Snape might raise a few eyebrows.

But for so long critics have wondered why county success stories have gone unrewarded so can we blame the selectors?

It seems to me an interesting blend of the exciting potential of Stuart Broad and Ravi Bopara, and the know-how of the likes of Darren Maddy and Snape.

We also have to remember what havoc a fit and firing Andrew Flintoff could wreak with Kevin Pietersen.

What do you think? Are England doomed for more pain in a one-day tournament or can the country where Twenty20 cricket was invented carry away the prize?

Sidebottom in Twenty20?! laugh lol.
Economy rate at county level is 6.81 and average is 20 runs a wicket.
Has no raw pace and i'm not sure about his variation.
Tremlett is fast and will get bounce, as will Broad, but not Sidey.
Drop him and get in Loye or another spinner- taking pace off the ball works- or an accurate medium pacer wh can take the pressure.

Not a chance of winning the 20/20 World Cup.
The bowlers are not world class-with the possible exception of Freddy, but he is hardly match fit or even in form and the batsmen have flattered to deceive ever since the Ashes series. I suggest that the final will probably be Australia against South Africa, with England a long way back.

"Economy rate at county level is 6.81 and average is 20 runs a wicket."

6.81 is a very good in 2020 (it puts him in the top 20 bowlers in all 2020 matches) and averaging 20 isn't too shabby either.

After an excellent Twenty20 final between Kent and Gloucs - how many of those 22 players got selected. None. Do you have to fail to get to a final to be selected for a World Cup?

No you have to be better than the people in the squad already and none of the players in the final were/are. Including the pieman.

i think leaving loye out of the squad is just stupid... he is one of englands most explosive batsmen up the order and could get england off to a good start.

I hope we do well but I fear:

Final - SA vs Aus (winners)

England not even in semis.

Have England got it right? -
no, we haven't. we are trying to be too clever with our selection. we should just pick our one day team. players like bell should have been included.
