Is the pressure on Man Utd this season?

Premiership
comment on the article

Jose Mourinho insists the pressure is on Manchester United rather than Chelsea because of their big-spending in the transfer market this summer.

Mourinho has that pressure in the past, but now seems happy to transfer it to Old Trafford ahead of the Community Shield clash at Wembley on Sunday.

But is he right? Ferguson is confident he has the players to retain the title and make a serious tilt at the Champions League.

What's your view?

it's hardly news that all managers play mind games - in part JM is right - we have been slammed for 3 seasons on the money spent - now MUFC and LFC have gone mad with money and the onus is on them and particularly their supporters to shut up about CFC spending potential - i see no differance with what JM is doing to what we have had to endure over the past 20 years from Ferguson so why everyone is getting hot under the collar i don't know? - it's all part and parcel of the game -

donenrico.. ?

the difference between man utd and chelski's spending is that man utd make all their own money, due to having THE biggest fanbase in the world, and being the biggest club in the world! chelski simply rely on a dodgy billionaire russian, who likes spending his dirty money biggrin

Ferguson has a very cunning way to keep pressure away from his kids.

He very selectively goes for the very young, this way neither the club nor the kids are under any pressure to succeed in their first season as everyone realise they are still being groomed towards succees.

Certainly no one will expect as much from nani and anderson as we all expected from Balack and Scheva.

Biased but true. United do have the biggest world wide fanbase.

SO with the biggest fan base and the most money you should all beaware the money in itself does not win the titile, so from your postings here I would gather that you are all going to recant on your your calims that Chelsea bought the title.

Or will you spin 180 degrees on thsi topic too?

The facts is Roman only spent the excess money it would have cost to buy United on Transfers. So perhaps the fact that you make so much money and are the wrolds largest sporting "Franchise" (because its the franchise that makes the money from merchandising) is the reason you got an aging American business man & family, that had to borrow excessively to buy you and Chelsea got a young russian you wanted to create history.

Doesn't really matter becasue both clubs are setting the benchmark - Fact is Man Utd fans are not better than any other fan or Vice Versa.

i cant say the pressure is only on sir Alex. Rafa has equally if not more pressure with his team not winning the league in what 17 years?...Sir Alex just made the game more interesting and..... yes remaining number one is harder than becoming number one.....
