Browns not coming then

Championship Sheffield United

I just hope Beattie doesnt come now and I am happy! We are desperate for a Midfielder though. Bringing Brown back was a non starter and never going to happen, nor do I think it would have worked. As it says on the article he has transformed into a defensive midfielder now, so is a different player to the one which served us so well.

Well from having a look at some videos of David Carney on youtube.

He may be the creative player we have needed for a while. Although his finishing does seem to have left something to be desired this video is from last season. This season he has scored 8 goals from midfield.

Looks like the boy can run a bit, pass but needs work on shooting. Could well be decent signing, shouldnt be expensive too!

As an australian and a weekly wacher of the A-League I can tell you that carney can play as a left back, left wing back, left winger or right winger (his primary position is either right or left flank). He usually has a good delivery and will give 100%. He is a consistent player and has been one of the leagues best players sice its formation 2 years ago. Would be a nice signing especially for a small fee for you guys.

Jimmy

Carney is primarily a midfielder. As is Clarke.

As for Beattie yes he might be good but we dont need another striker at the moment. ALthough Sharp has broken his hand he should be able to wear a cast and still play.

I wouldnt mind them both, along with midfield slection of hendrie, tonge, monty, gillespie, both quinns and perhaps law or ashmore. I do think an experienced but not too experienced Midfield player we could do with, like Brown (now of course gone) or Danny Murphy etc. Or of course another out an out winger like Eagles.

Heard ages ago that Ambrose at Charlton was rumoured to be coming here but that went but quiet!

Following on the theme of using YouTube footage as a method of assessing a player, check this out on Beattie:

My original thoughts were that £4m was too much and we could spend it much better elsewhere.
However, looking at this footage, one thing stands out. He knows how to put a penalty away. Then considering if we'd scored some of our penalties last season, we'd have got at least 3 more points, then having someone like Beattie in the side would have saved us from the drop - so £4m to save £60m seems like a reasonable gamble to take...

David Carney will be a worthwhile signing for any club. The guy can play in a variety of midfield and defensive positions (preferred position is the wing IIRC) and has a natural attacking intent. He was part of the reason Sydney won the inaugural A-League title and whilst he perhaps hasn't performed his best in recent times he is still a class act and a valuable asset to any club he plays for.

That Beattie video is positively creepie. Anyway, in my eyes, I think that he would be a good signing. As for Carney, excellent signing. I still think that Robboe's got something else up his sleeve for attacking midfield.
