I wouldn't have minded Pressley myself as he has the experience but i'm happy with McManus. We have a really strong squad now but it remains to be seen if we can carry it into Europe.
Scott Brown would have obviously been an option also.
Our defence looks magic!!!!

Not many candidates for the Captaincy. I think Pressley might have been a good short term Captain until McManus gains more experience. However the last real Captain at Celtic Park was Paul Lambert.
Not many like him around these days, mores the pity.

McManus deserves to be the captain. Just thankful it wasn't Pressley as I'm hoping he won't play too much this season - he sometimes looks as though he's running backwards he's that slow. Fingers crossed Kennedy gets back to full fitness, or if not we've always got O'Dea. Caldwell and Balde would be the last resort if needed. At least central midfield is sorted with Brown and Donati. Hope Naka doesn't need too much of a rest so that Hartley doesn't play more than he has to on the right.

Somebody wrote on this thread that the defence looks 'magic'. I beg to differ...the MIDFIELD looks magic. Nakamura, Brown, Donati, McGeady. Very nice indeed, but defence... Pressley is slower than a week in jail, and I can just see him getting berated by Boruc in an all important Euro encounter for a howler. O'Dea seems the best bet for me too along with Kennedy and Naylor

big mick is the man. I couldnt see anyone else getting the captaincy apart from maybe boruc. Pressley is awful and should be out of the team. why is strachan overlooking O'Dea the kid is immense you only have to look at his performance at the san siro. This whole topic bring me on to this, there are no more characters in the squad. jackie mcnamara, john hartson, didier agathe, chris sutton, stan varga, alan thompson, neil lennon have all gone and bobo never gets played. strachans style of football is so boring. bring back MON

Aw c'mon Jamie_67. Talk about nostalgia getting in the way of facts. I will slaughter a sacred cow here and state categorically that football under MON was not the beautiful game at all. Far from it. Muscular and aggressive with long balls played with depressing regularity. For once I am tempted to agree with Mourinho who described Celtic's style under MON at the time as 'horrible'. Fans haven't warmed to GS, and MON was a more immediately likeable character being a 'Celtic Man'. But his footballing philosophy was most definitely not that of Jock Stein. The squad GS is putting together has an emphasis on fast passing on the deck and that's what I want to see. GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM.

McManus as captain of Celtic is a great choice from Strachan I believe. This kid is a Celtic boy thru and thru. He´s knows everything about the culture of this great club. All of us Celtic fans must give the lad a bit of time to settle into this very high profile position as he´s taking on a lot of history.Personally, I wanted this to happen when Lennon was made captain! This is a progessive step to the future. Welcome Stevie bhoy. Equally,Strachan deserves a lot of credit for making,I believe anyway, a very progessive choice. Here´s to season ´07 - ´08. From a happy Celtic fan in Seville.Hail, hail,Johnny.
